Kirstie Allsopp to reveal Upcycling secrets on Facebook

B&Q celebrity ambassador and Queen of Channel 4’s Vintage Home, Kirstie Allsopp, will be taking over B&Q’s Facebook page to answer DIY and upcycling questions, to launch Kirstie’s new YouTube films on Upcycling, which are going live on B&Q’s You Can Do It YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/bandq).

The two hour forum is scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday, 6th February), from 10am to 12pm, and people will be able to chat with Kirstie and tap into her expert knowledge on home-improvement and tips for selling your home.

One of the most fun ways to give your home an individual twist is to upcycle. If you haven’t heard of this trend before, it is basically all about revamping, repainting, re-polishing your existing home products. The benefit of this is that you don’t throw away unwanted products that might end up on a landfill.

According to a recent European Home Report by Kingfisher, owner of B&Q, refreshing the home came first in a list of motivations for doing a home improvement project. In fact, 60 per cent of UK respondents expressed an interest in making improvements (like upcycling) simply to refresh the home.

As the presenter and author continues her role as ambassador for B&Q, Kirstie is committed to continuing her quest to encourage the nation to have a go at making things themselves through You Can Do It and kids’ classes, online forums and online How To YouTube videos.

Kirstie Allsopp says: “There’s nothing like the feeling you get when you’ve completed a job in the home and you can stand back and admire your hard work. With the current state of the economy, I can’t place enough emphasis on upcycling - it’s about putting your own personal stamp on it, creating something you can be proud of and giving your house a bit of a re-decorated feel.

"My ambassador role with B&Q is also about giving everyone the confidence to have a go and help as many people as possible improve their homes and enjoy them with their families.”
