A plethora of stars from the world of jump racing will descend on Teign Valley Golf Club in Devon on Monday, June 6 when a charity golf match takes place in aid of the Injured Jockeys Fund.

The event has been organised by Malcolm Barrett from Kingsbridge who has been involved in charity fund raising days for the IJF for 15 years.

"These golf days are a lot of fun and always very popular. We’re very lucky that so many jockeys are coming don to Devon to play," he said.

Past heroes who will be taking part in the challenge include former champion jockey John Francome, Peter Scudamore and Steve Smith- Eccles.

Jockeys still making the headlines who will be playing include Richard Johnson, Aidan Coleman, Gavin Sheehan, Daryl Jacob, Richie McLernon.

The trainers John Flint, Christian Leech and Martin Hill will be chipping and and putting and racehorse owners Gino Palata and Simon Such, who own The New One, will also be in action.

Local businesses have been generous in supporting the fund raising day and various auction lots have been donated.

Barrett said: "It starts at 10am and everyone is invited to come along and watch. There will be a presentation of prizes in the evening and a chance to bid for auction lots including Simon Lister has donated the course for free so that every penny raised goes to the Injured Jockeys’ Fund.”

John Francome said: “It is an extremely well run and fun golf day in aid of a wonderful charity and I am very much looking forward to taking part.”

There are still spaces available and anyone wishing to put together a team of three, with a jockey supplied, should contact Malcolm Barrett on 07791092957.
