RNRMC wins best fundraiser at national awards

The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) has won the Best Fundraiser honour on behalf of the Royal Navy’s payroll giving scheme (PRG) at the National Payroll Giving Excellence Awards 2015.

Led by the charity’s Payroll Giving Business Development Executive Dean Rogers (from Fareham, Hampshire), the RNRMC has helped increase the number of members of the Royal Navy’s PRG scheme to 40 per cent of the Naval Service since 2008 (3,200 to today’s 11,500).

The National Payroll Giving Excellence Awards, held at the House of Lords on Tuesday 17th November, were organised by the Institute of Fundraising and Association of Payroll Giving Organisations and led by the Minister for Civil Society, Rob Wilson MP.

Dean has made a vital contribution to the development and growing success of Payroll Giving (PRG) within the Naval Service. Each year he visits 130 ships, submarines and Naval establishments worldwide, highlighting the excellent work of the RNRMC and its PRG scheme.

His good-humoured and informative presentations have significantly raised awareness of the RNRMC, underlining its status as one of the country’s leading Service charities.

As a result, annual PRG income has gone up from £160,000 to £750,000 since 2008 – a sum which goes a long way to supporting current and former Naval Service personnel and their families.

Robert Robson, CEO of the RNRMC, said: “I would like to congratulate Dean Rogers, our Payroll Giving Business Development Executive, on this national recognition. It is a tribute not just to his dedication over the past six and half years but also to the teamwork that sits behind it.

“Many of us in the charity and throughout the Royal Navy and Royal Marines have been trained by Dean and have spread the message, and the money simply wouldn’t flow without the really fantastic and far flung team effort that makes such a difference to those who we are here to serve.”

Dean Rogers, Payroll Giving Business Development Executive, said: “This is a fantastic recognition for the RNRMC and proof that payroll giving is an effective method of supporting the charity whilst getting on with the day job.

“Many people who donate through their payroll further encourage fundraising events, at sea or on land, acting as ambassadors – or as we call them, charity champions – for the charity.”
