Chantry Dance Company brings to life Oscar Wilde’s magical story of The Happy Prince in their new triple bill UK tour programme.

2014 is the 160th anniversary of Oscar Wilde’s birth. The celebrated author and poet, best known for his novel A Picture of Dorian Gray, wrote many fairy stories for children. One of the best loved of these is the magical story of The Happy Prince. To celebrate Wilde’s anniversary, Chantry Dance Company have included this wonderful story in their UK tour programme this year. The poignant tale of a statue and lost swallow who sacrifice everything they have to help those suffering around them is told through modern ballet, music and puppetry. Adapted and choreographed by West End and Sadler’s Wells performers Paul Chantry and Rae Piper, The Happy Prince will play at the Cygnet Theatre, Exeter on Friday November 7th at 7:30pm.

Chantry Dance Company’s UK Regional tour also includes two other modern ballets. The first, All I Can Do Is Be Me, is set to Bob Dylan’s best-loved songs, including Tambourine Man and Blowin’ in the Wind. The second, Gershwin’s famous jazz concerto Rhapsody in Blue, is expressed through a dynamic duet.

The programme is performed by a highly talented international cast, and provides a great evening of family entertainment. Simon Butteriss, well-known singer and television presenter, said of Chantry’s work, “…hugely impressive…amazing.” Other audience members are quoted as saying, “superb!”, “pure brilliance” and “Paul Chantry and the Chantry Dance Company….YOU ROCK!”
