If you think the world’s greatest dad would prefer a storage solution with a retro feel why not treat him to Dorothee Becker’s Uten.Silo? Designed in 1969 this innovative piece was inspired by a multi-pocketed fabric storage system in her father's workshop.
With financial backing from her husband, designer Ingo Mauer, Becker first showed the Uten.Silo prototype at the Frankfurt Fair in 1969. Her design was an instant success but sadly the oil embargo of the mid-70s made this plastic design classic too expensive to produce and Uten.Silo fell out of production. Fortunately in 2002 the Vitra Design Museum reissued both the original 1969 Uten.Silo and a smaller version dating from 1970.
With containers of varying shapes and sizes the Uten.Silo organises all types of spaces such as offices, kitchens, workshops, bathrooms and children’s rooms. It is made of plastic, comes with metal hooks and is available in either black, white or red.
