2014 marks the Canal’s 200th birthday and to celebrate this significant milestone the Canal has been given the honour of hosting of the IWA National Trailboat Festival over the late May bank holiday weekend.

The IWA National Trailboat Festival is an annual boating festival belonging to the Inland Waterways Association, but run by a different canal society or navigation authority somewhere in the UK each year. It is primarily a festival for trailed boats, which are towed to the waterway and launched at a slipway.

However, there is usually a significant land-based element to the festival, including entertainment and refreshments, aimed at promoting the waterway and engaging local people.

There is lots going on including the highlifht of the weekend, the special Grand Western 200 at Mid Devon's showground near Tiverton on 24 May.
