
Patricia Volk
Patricia Volk was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and has been creating distinctive ceramic sculptures for over twenty years from her studio in Wiltshire.
She studied three dimensional design at Middlesex University and ceramics at Bath Spa University. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including Chichester Cathedral and the Royal West of England Academy, also appearing in the collections of Lord Carrington, the British Consul (Ivory Coast) and Mary Portas. She was Regional Winner of the ING “Discerning Eye” prize in 2007 and was shortlisted for the Brian Mercer Bronze Casting Residency.
One of her pieces was also selected as a Southern Arts prize. She is an associate member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors.
Technical notes:
The very large pieces are coiled and cut into pieces, fired and glued together afterwards. Some pieces are coiled, slab built and press moulded. They are fired to 1100¬1150 using a variety of materials Scarva, white St Thomas and paper porcelain. The pieces are finished with acrylic paint and pigments then a UV filter is applied to protect against the sun.
