Thirty years after leaving school, three old school friends who attended St Wilfrid’s School (class of 1984) in Exeter are reuniting to take part in the famous Scumrun charity rally.

Starting from Brands Hatch on 8 May, Terry Gale, Richard Harris and Paul Stevenson will be covering 3,000 miles in four days in their £500 2.5L Mercedes that already has 205,000 miles on the clock. The school friends, along with 100 other cars costing £500 or under will rally in a bid to become the scumrun champions. Team "Three Wise Monkeys" are hoping to raise as much as possible for the charity Tommys.

Terry Gale, one of the team members said: “Tommys is a great charity supporting research into stillbirth, premature birth and miscarriage and providing information for parents to be.”

He went on to say: "All money raised goes directly to the charity with all costs for the event, including the car, fuel and accommodation, are being borne by our team.”

When asked where in Europe the team will travel Paul Stevenson said: “We actually don't know, the rally starts at Brands Hatch and from there we get given map references every morning that we have to check in to later that evening. Even the first stage of the route is secret until the actual day of the launch.”

He added: “We don't really consider this to be a race in the conventional sense, just making it to the finish line in our old Merc and back home again would be an achievement in itself.”
