Exeter woman running London Marathon
A woman from Exeter is running the London Marathon on 13th April to raise awareness of the most common cancer in the under 30s.
Sam Hill, 27, chose to take part in the Marathon to raise money for the Lymphoma Association – a charity that supports people affected by lymphoma, the UK’s fifth most common cancer – and awareness of lymphatic cancer. She said:
"When I heard about lymphoma I decided to do find out a bit more about what it is. When I read that it was the most common cancer in the under 30s, I was shocked that I’d never heard of it so decided to try and help raise awareness of lymphatic cancer."
"I've grown to love running over the past couple of years and the London Marathon has always been on my bucket list. It’s a wonderful thing to be part of and I’m so glad that I will also be helping to raise awareness of lymphoma and money for this charity at the same time."
Lymphoma is the most common cancer in the under 30s and the UK’s fifth most common cancer overall. The most common symptoms include painless lumps in your neck, armpit or groin, excessive sweating, persistent itching and tiredness. If you have any questions about lymphoma, please visit the Lymphoma Association website at www.lymphomas.org.uk or call Freephone 0808 808 5555.
Sam is hoping to raise £1,400 for the charity and has been training hard. She said:
"My alarm has been going off at 5.30am every morning for the past couple of months for my seven mile run. For me the morning is the best time to run as the streets are deserted and if I’m lucky I get to see an outstanding sunrise."
