Women of Exeter invited to take part in global event
Women of Exeter are invited to take part in a free Global event, entitled ' Running | Out of Time ' .
Running | Out of Time is a part-audio, part-video, individual running experience; globally shared. It invites women to engage in a story-based audio experience exploring running, parkour, and free running.
The event, which is taking place on Saturday 8th March ( International Women's Day), sees its participants in Exeter linked to a runner somewhere else around the globe as far as China, India or South America, who will be sharing the same experience at exactly the same time.
Having booked a slot, the UK runner will arrive at a city centre shop and will be instructed to press play on an MP3 player at a precise time. For the next 18 minutes, they will follow instructions encouraging them to run, jump and explore the space around them. No running experience is necessary; it is open to all women. The runner’s progress will be filmed either by a friend or by someone from the Running | Out of Time team, if preferred. Exactly the same process will be taking place in another country at that very moment. The video content of all of the runs will then be uploaded to a website - runningoutoftime.co.uk - so that they play simultaneously. The result will be twenty-eight women from all corners of the globe, running through varying landscapes, in different time zones, sharing an experience with a stranger they’ve never met but united through their movement.
The idea for the project emerged from a very personal journey for artist, Kelly Marie Miller. An elite gymnast, her body was able and disciplined until a terrible accident six years ago left her paralysed and unable to talk. After many months of rehabilitation, Kelly regained her ability to move and communicate along with a sharp appreciation of the freedom movement brings.
She said:
"Each day as the sun set on my still form, I wished I had the gift to move. Just one more time. To appreciate the freedom my body had given me. The freedom I had taken for granted. The artist that I am and the work that I make has, and will continue to be inspired by this. By attempting to give others what I lost and then found: freedom of expression, body, self, and soul."
The Running | Out of Time event will run on Saturday 8th March, with running slots taking place hourly from 7am – 8pm. This exciting event holds no cost.
