Hospiscare attempt at skydive record
Local charity Hospiscare is looking for individuals to jump from 15,000 feet after teaming up with Skydive UK and other charities to try to beat the world record of tandem skydive jumps achieved in 24 hours.
The current record is held in Germany and is set at 251 people. Skydive UK, based at Dunkeswell Airfield near Honiton, is hoping to smash this record with 260 jumps on Saturday June 21, 2014.
Hospiscare is delighted to be helping Skydive UK with their Guinness World Record attempt. Fundraiser Celia Wilkinson said:
“We are really excited to be part of the record attempt because, on top of the unforgettable experience of jumping 15,000 feet out of a plane, our fantastic supporters will get the chance to be in the record books which is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
Last year more than 40 supporters took to the skies to support Hospiscare, raising over £11,000 between them.
One supporter, Pam Preston, signed up having taken part in Hospiscare’s ladies only Starlight Walk the previous year and wanting a new challenge.
Pam who successfully raised £1,025 for the local charity said: “I was delighted to be a part of the sky-dive for Hospiscare; the experience was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I’m so glad I’ve done it.
“I chose to support Hospiscare because of all the amazing work they do locally supporting patients and their families at the end of life. They make the hardest times that little bit easier.”
