
Busy weekend for Fire Service
It has been a busy weekend for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, with appliances being called to several dramatic incidents.
Today has seen Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service rescue a woman trapped in mud in Newton Abbot.
The incident, which occured at 3.54pm, saw two appliances from Newton Abbot and a specialist rescue team from Camels Head mobilised.
The woman in question was suffering from with ankle injuries and was stuck in the mud in the River Teign. On arrival the crews reported that the female was stuck in the mud up to her knees approximately 10m from the bank. A specialist Coastguard mud rescue team was also in attendance.
The female was rescued from the mud by the fire service and coastguard personnel using dry suits and lines. The Camels Head team were returned as no longer required.
Just a day before ( Saturday 19th January) the fire service were called to a similar incident in which they had to rescue a female dog walker who had become stuck in Marshland in Okephampton.
Later that day appliances were called to a car accident where they spent over an hour rescuing those trapped in two vehicles.
Fire appliances arrived at the incident, which took place in Clyst St Mary in Exeter, at 5.55pm on Saturday (18th January) evening.
On arrival at the scene crews confirmed two vehicles involved in a road traffic collision with persons trapped in each vehicle. Four off duty fire service personnel were also in attendance at the scene assisting the on duty crew.
After being at the incident for just minutes, The Rescue Tender from Middlemoor Fire Station was requested from the incident.
Crews used three sets of hydraulic rescue equipment to release persons trapped in two vehicles and later completed a full roof removal on one car, where they were able to release one casualty.
Two sets of hydraulic rescue equipment was then put to use to rescue another person trapped in a vehicle.
In total appliances from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service assisted in freeing four persons trapped in two vehciles due to a road traffic collision.
Appliances left the scene at just after 7.30 on Saturday evening.
Three of the four casualties were taken to hospital following this incident.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were also called to fires in Umberleigh and other incidents throughout Saturday and Sunday.
