Kathmandu: Rallies take place in Nepal against rape

Protests have taken place in Kathmandu against rape, after a week of protests in neighbouring India.

The Nepal Women’s Association, Nepali Congress’ sister organisation, announced a protest programme calling for the end of rape and incidents of violence against women and guaranteeing the rule of law to the citizens.

Hillary Clinton in hospital with blood clot after fall

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, 65, has been admitted to hospital in New York with a blood clot, officials say.

Mrs Clinton suffered a concussion earlier this month after fainting and falling down. She was reported to have had a stomach virus at the time and to have passed out after becoming dehydrated.

Doctors discovered the clot during a follow-up examination on Sunday, her spokesman Philippe Reines said. "She is being treated with anti-coagulants and is at New York-Presbyterian Hospital so that they can monitor the medication over the next 48 hours," he said....

Vigil held in memory of Delhi gangrape victim

The right-wing BJP party of India held a vigil for the 23-year-old victim of the Delhi gangrape that has rocked India this last fortnight.

(NewsPoint) –Around 2,000 people staged a flash mob on Thursday evening at Saskatoon's Midtown Plaza shopping centre to participate in a round dance as part of the "Idle no more" protests currently taking place in Canada. Indigenous activists and supporters have been demonstrating since early December across the country in protest against the federal government’s Bill C-45.

(NewsPoint) – South Koreans went to the polls on Wednesday, with voters having to choose the daughter of their former military ruler and a man her father jailed for political activism. Freezing conditions greeted the electorate around the country.

About 10.7 million out of a total of 40.5 million eligible voters had cast their ballots as of 11 a.m. after voting began at 13,542 polling stations nationwide at 6 a.m., the National Election Commission said. As of 1600 local time, it was reported that there was a turnout of 65.2%, higher than final turnout from 5 years ago.

Citizen journalists have captured dramntic images outside the school in the US where an horrific shooting took place.

It has been reprted that 27 people are dead including 20 children.

Latest reports say 27 people have been killed, including many children, in a shooting attack at a primary school in the US state of Connecticut.

This is the first image of children being led away from the tragic scene.

The Associated Press say at least 18 children are among the dead at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.The school is currently on lockdown as police investigate. Multiple witnesses say the school's principal was killed, another teacher was shot.

(newspoint) The Croatian capital has been hit with the worse snow in almost six decades, causing severe disruptions to transport systems, and even causing fatalities.

Officials said four people have died in Croatia and two in Serbia as a result of blizzards in the region of southwestern Europe over the weekend, closing airports and roads and blocking public transportation in big cities.

People have been warned to stay indoors, and told not to drive, despite conditions improving since the weekend.
