Seen in a Union Street window

Someone has put a really helpful summary of EU candidates up in their window today. It shows which parties are Remain and which Leave and gives a few words from their manifestos.

Except the Conservatives have not issued an EU Election manifesto to date and only one of the Independents, Neville Seed, has done so.

In an election with eight Parties, two of which are just-formed, and three Independents, any clarification is good and this one looks to have no bias.

Taking the broadest category - LEAVE or REMAIN - the poster shows:

REMAIN: Change UK (TIG); Green...

One in ten Brits get less than four hours sleep per night.

The nation is suffering from a ‘sleep-loss epidemic’ according to alarming new research* released to coincide with World Sleep Day (Friday 15th March).

According to the study, only four in ten (40 percent) of people get the recommended eight hours of sleep per night, with one in ten regularly getting less than four hours’ rest every time they go to bed. Car parking charges set to increase in Exeter

Car parking charges in Exeter are set to rise by 10 per cent from April to support the City Council’s aim of reducing congestion, while helping it to balance its budget.

A report due to be discussed by councillors next week reveals that the council cannot support its aim of reducing congestion in the city centre without “reasonable and regular increases in tariffs”.

A key strategic priority for Exeter is to tackle congestion and accessibility, where sustainable means of travel are safer, cheaper, quicker and more convenient than private car ownership.

The council is...

Fish at Living Coasts in Torquay have been observed performing a mating behaviour that zookeepers think has never before been recorded. Animal experts filmed female four-eyed fish (Anableps anableps) rocking from side-to-side; this appeared to attract the male to come and mate.

Sharp-eyed aquarists Tom Fielding and Sam Worthington noted and eventually videoed the curious behaviour. Clare Rugg, curator of the Devon coastal zoo, has a theory: “One possibility is that the movement of the female fish is releasing pheromones into the water to signal that she is ready for mating. She...

Atelopus is a genus – a group of species – of small, attractive true toads from Central and South America. Atelopus are just a few centimetres long, with narrow pointed heads, smooth skin and beautifully-coloured patterning. They live on the tropical rainforest floor and in the leaf-litter near streams; breeding...
