Half of drivers unprepared for winter driving

New research form the Highways Agency shows that nearly half of UK drivers are unprepared for winter driving conditions.

In a survey of motorists across the UK that 28% of drivers don’t carry any of the suggested emergency kit in poor conditions and 45% don’t check their vehicle before driving in poor conditions.

In the South West it was found that a quarter of motorists don’t even carry de-icer when in the most severe weather conditions.

Devon based Marine guilty of murdering injured prisoner

A Devon based Royal Marine has been found guilty of murder after shooting dead an injured prisoner in 2011. Two other marines were acquitted at the Military Court Centre in Wiltshire. The marines known only as Marines A, B, and C due to an anonymity order placed due to fears for the safety of their family. Two further marines, known only as Marines D and E, had charges against them dropped in connection to the case. The three marines had denied murdering the unknown man while on patrol in Helmand province in 2011. Marine A was convicted at a Military court martial after the prosecution...

Dog attack sees council step up park patrols

Exeter City Council has been stepping up patrols in Belmont Park following the unfortunate incident back in August when a dog was attacked and killed in front its elderly owner.

Diana Walton, the owner of a 9-year old Yorkshire terrier Folly need medical attention after a much larger dog bit and shook Folly to death in August this year.

Vodafone singled out as worst 3G in UK

Vodafone has been singled out as the worst provider of 3G mobile internet in the UK by telecoms watchdog.

The watchdog, Ofcom, published tests showing the Vodafone has breached the terms of its spectrum licence by missing its legal obligation to extend its coverage of 3G to 90% of the country.

This 90% is to cover the majority of the country’s population rather than the landmass meaning remote areas are still unlikely to get good coverage.

Regulations on farm veichle speed could be cut in an effort to help farmers transport goods more efficiently and, Roads Minister Robert Goodwill has announced today

The heads of the UK's spying agencies are to face an unprecedented televised grilling by MPs. The three heads of the UK’s intelligence agencies will appear together in public for the first time today. UK Population expected to rise to over 73 Million

Figures released by the Office for National Statistics today show that the UK population could rise by nearly 10 million over the next 25 years. The ONS figures project the UK could have a population of 73.3million up from an estimated population of 63.7 million in 2012. A much larger proportion of this population will be much older as well putting more pressure on services as the number of people aged over 80, will double. Fourth firefighters strike next week

Firefighters across England and Wales have set a date for a fourth strike action on the 13 November.

Members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) will also hold a new ballot to decide if to take further industrial action and what forms they should take.

As in previous actions FBU members will strike for a set hour time period before returning to work.

This strike will take place for four hours between 10am and 2pm on Wednesday 13 November.

Sweetshop sold repackaged chocolate worth 30p, for £3 a bar

A sweetshop has been fined £1400 for selling fake Wonka chocolate bars for £3 a bar which were really ASDA own-brand bars costing only 30p. An investigation by a South Wales Council’s trading standards team found the sweetshop were buying Smart Price chocolate bars from ASDA and re-packaging them as Nestlé’s premium ‘WONKA’ brand making more than £2 in profit from each bar they sold. Sweet66 Ltd, based in Cwnbran, South Wales was found guilty of eight offences including breach of trademark and misleading customers.
