Train routes to Exeter blocked

The South West have experienced yet more damage due to stormy weather with Crewkerne being victim to a landslide.

The landslide, which was reported by Network Rail, means that popular routes in and out of Exeter ( including Exeter to Waterloo) are blocked.

Earlier in the week nearby town Dawlish was affected by the weather after waves destroyed the train line.

Bridgewater and Yeovil routes are also both currently blocked due to this weekend's landslide and continued bad weather.

Kidnapping Lapdancers cleared

Three lapdancers and their manager have been cleared of kidnapping a Gloucestershire club boss. Curtis Woodman alleged the four women and two men forced him into a car and robbed him in September 2012. Dancers Mandy Cool, Rachel Goodchild and Stephanie Pye, and manager Charlotte Devaney, had worked for him during the Cheltenham Hunt Festival. Brothers Robert Morris, 27, and Alexander Morris, 23, were also cleared of kidnap. During the trial DJ and Manager Ms Devany told Bristol Crown Court Mr Woodman had invented the kidnap to avoid paying them £42,000. The £42,000 sum was allegedly taken...

Endangered turtle washed up on Devon beach

A rare, warm water Kemp’s Ridley turtle has washed up on Woolacombe Beach, North Devon.

The small dead turtle was reported to the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) on Tuesday 28 January.

Just 30cm in length, the creature is not the first Kemp’s ridley to be washed up along the UK coastline this winter. Parents have left the art world horrified after letting their two daughters play on a £10m sculpture at the Tate Modern. New York gallery owner, Stephanie Theodore, posted a picture of the children playing on the multi-million pound piece by American artist Donald Judd with the caption: “Holy crap. Queen should open palace to raise funds

MPs today said that Buckingham Palace should be opened to more paying visitors when the Queen is not in residence to fund improvements to the royal estate.

The influential Public Accounts Committee criticised the Royal Household for mismanaging its finances.

Chairwoman Margaret Hodge said there was "huge scope for savings" on the annual £31m of taxpayer funds given to the Queen to spend on official duties.

But a spokeswoman for the royals said spending was now more transparent.

A soldier has been honoured with the British Army's first promotion in the field since 1953.

Rifleman Gigar Das, from 1st Battalion The Rifles (1 RIFLES), was honoured a promotion in the field for his service to Mali while serving as part of the EU Training Team.

The Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Peter Wall, accompanied the head of the French Army, General Bertrand Ract-Madoux, to witness soldiers from 1 RIFLES delivering infantry training to their Malian counterparts.

UK economy has best growth since 2007

The UK economy has had its fastest growth since 2007,with UK GDP growing by 1.9% of in 2013 according to a report from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). GDP used as the primary measure of a country’s economic growth, grew by 0.7% in the last quarter of 2013, down slightly on the 0.8% growth seen in the third quarter.
