UK are a nation of curtain twitchers

A social experiment which left a clearly labelled ‘journal’ on a table at a busy coffee shop in Central London saw three out of five people (60%) surreptitiously pick up and become engrossed in genuine, handwritten diary entries dealing with a wide range of deeply personal subjects – including losing a parent and even sex fantasies.

Perhaps unsurprisingly in a nation where soap operas prove time and again to be the highest-rated TV shows, a new social network featuring over 23,000 (and growing) real-life diary entries from real people has proven a huge hit with nosey Britons – and...

The UK’s leading marine charity, the Marine Conservation Society (MCS), says recent figures showing the highest amounts of litter on British beaches in 20 years have prompted it to launch a mass beach participation event The Great British Beach Clean.

The charity is looking for volunteers to put their names forward, ready to make this the biggest event of its kind in September.

Plastic bottles and carrier bags, condoms, nappies, balloons, and tiny plastic pieces can be found on almost every beach in the UK – either washed up, blown there or dropped. Our beaches have never...

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) figures were published during Farm Safety Week (June 30 to July 6) designed to highlight the risks farmers face every day.

They show a fall in fatal accidents this year to 27 workers – down from 29 workers in 2012/13.

The Farm Safety Partnership, which is chaired...
