Exeter-based Pennon Group has expanded after acquiring Bournemouth Water for £100.3million.

Pennon Group Plc owns South West Water Limited and Taunton-based Viridor Limited. The Group has assets of around £5 billion and a workforce of around 4,500 people. Bournemouth Water is a water-only company serving a population of 437,600 people in an area of more than 1,000 square kilometres, including Bournemouth, Wimborne, the New Forest, Lymington and the Fawley oil refinery on the Solent. Government set to ban legal highs

Five “legal highs” are set to be banned by the Government.

The drugs will be made illegal from tomorrow (10 April) for up to 12 months while the independent Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD) decides whether they should be permanently controlled.

The government accepted the ACMD’s advice to make a Temporary Class Drug Order (TCDO) on five compounds related to methylphenidate, a Class B drug, due to concerns about their misuse as new psychoactive substances (NPS).

NUT call for school holiday reform

The NUT has sparked debate by saying pupils should be able to skip school to go on holiday without their parents being penalised.

About 1,200 delegates attending the the union's national conference will vote on the parental fines motion this afternoon (Saturday).
