Government set to ban legal highs

Five “legal highs” are set to be banned by the Government.

The drugs will be made illegal from tomorrow (10 April) for up to 12 months while the independent Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD) decides whether they should be permanently controlled.

The government accepted the ACMD’s advice to make a Temporary Class Drug Order (TCDO) on five compounds related to methylphenidate, a Class B drug, due to concerns about their misuse as new psychoactive substances (NPS).

NUT call for school holiday reform

The NUT has sparked debate by saying pupils should be able to skip school to go on holiday without their parents being penalised.

About 1,200 delegates attending the the union's national conference will vote on the parental fines motion this afternoon (Saturday).

Two men were sentenced at Bristol Crown Court yesterday (Tuesday 10 March) for defrauding vulnerable people out of over £88,000.

Rahim Choudhury and Abdul Shafee, both 19, of Quaker Street, London, were sentenced to 38 months and 15 months in prison, respectively.

In early January 2015, Rahim Choudhury (pictured right) pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit fraud offences where 30 victims were defrauded of a total of £88,500.
