Dog on Tour: Maggie and Oscar embark on last leg of epic charity ride

Maggie Scorer, who in March set off on a 5000- mile ‘Dog on Tour’ cycling challenge around the UK coast with her faithful companion, eight-year-old golden retriever Oscar, is now on the last leg of her journey.

Maggie has spent nearly 150 days and approximately 4500 miles cycling to raise £25,000 for Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal charity and blood cancer charity Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.

They began their journey in Suffolk and travelled northwards along the east coast, anti-clockwise, and hit a mile stone by reaching Lands Ends last week.

A 54-year-old North Devon plumbing and heating engineer has been sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of fraud and consumer protection charges. Gary Henry, of Anstey Way, Instow, stood trail at Exeter Crown Court on three charges of Fraud and three charges of contravening Professional Diligence under Consumer Protection legislation. Two houses are burgled in Exeter every day according to shocking new government statistics uncovered this week.

The Chancellor has presented his Summer Budget to Parliament today. Here is a summary of what was announced:

1. Introducing a new National Living Wage of over £9 an hour by 2020

The first day of the Buckfast Abbey Storytelling Festival was a great success with schools despite the torrential rain, which threatened to make it a wash-out.

The day started off well but just as the schools were about to do their first sessions with the host of well-known storytellers, who had come to the Abbey for this unique event, the skies just opened.
