New HMRC service announced for workers to take control of their tax affairs

Workers are set to take control of their tax affairs as the government today (21 July 2025) announces a new online Pay As You Earn (PAYE) service for around 35 million UK taxpayers as HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) sets out more than 50 measures to transform the UK’s tax and customs system.

The new online service for all PAYE taxpayers will make it simpler and easier to check and update their income, allowances, reliefs and expenses, and will be available via their Personal Tax Account or through the HMRC app.

Man's body found on S Devon coast

The body of a man reported missing has been discovered off the coast of Salcombe early this morning (18th September).

A 51-year-old Kingsbridge man who is believed to have gone fishing early on Thursday (17th Spetember) was reported missing at around midnight. A search was launched with the involvement of the Coastguard and the helicopter from Chivenor.

A body was disciovered near Gara Rock at around 3.20am and was later taken to Derriford. Family have been informed and formal identifdication of the body has taken place.

A delay of up to four months for agri-environment scheme payments to farmers in England will put added pressure on farm businesses at a time when thousands are facing low farmgate prices.

Natural England has told the NFU that payments will start being made to farmers in October but the majority of transactions will take place in November and December. This autumn farmers in England are owed £200 million for environmental measures they have carried out.

Dog on Tour: Maggie and Oscar embark on last leg of epic charity ride

Maggie Scorer, who in March set off on a 5000- mile ‘Dog on Tour’ cycling challenge around the UK coast with her faithful companion, eight-year-old golden retriever Oscar, is now on the last leg of her journey.

Maggie has spent nearly 150 days and approximately 4500 miles cycling to raise £25,000 for Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal charity and blood cancer charity Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.

A 54-year-old North Devon plumbing and heating engineer has been sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of fraud and consumer protection charges.
