William Morris to stand again in Police and Crime elections

I take this opportunity to let the readers of the Exeter Daily know that I shall be standing as candidate for the post of Police and Crime Commissioner in the May 5th elections.

I will stand again as an independent candidate because I believe this is not an appropriate post to be held by someone with an allegiance to a political party. I have a number of key policies which will be announced and explained in a series of videos the first of which are already online. My policies are outlined here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5S3-u5Gi0Dk

Lost or stray dogs will be reunited with their owners thanks to new microchipping laws which come into effect to improve dog welfare today.

Under the new measures all owners must ensure their dog is microchipped and their details are kept up to date. Not only will this mean the UK’s 8.5 million dogs can be returned to their owners more quickly if they wander too far from home, but it will also make it easier to track down the owners of dogs that carry out attacks on people.

Already over 86% of responsible dog owners have had their pets painlessly implanted with a microchip...

Support Adoption For Pets manager Amy Wilson has underlined the importance of making sure your dog is microchipped.

New legislation is set to commence from the 6th April 2016 making it a legal requirement for all dog owners to ensure their pets are microchipped, or could face a £500 fine and a criminal conviction.

Statistics show that around 1.8 million of our furry friends are still without a microchip making them untraceable if they are to go missing, and Amy has advised the public to take responsibility and adhere to the new law.

She said: “We cannot express the...

Tackling should be banned in school rugby games due to the risk of "serious injury" among under-18s, a group of more than 70 doctors and health experts have warned.

Academics, doctors, and public health professionals are among those to have signed the letter, and said studies show children were being made vulnerable to "serious and catastrophic risk of injury".

They argue two-thirds of injuries in youth rugby and most concussions are down to tackles and urge schools to move to touch and non-contact rugby.
