40-year-old sexual offender sent to prison for three years
Michael Callon, a 40 year old health care assistant from St Ives was today (Thursday 31st January) sentenced to three years imprisonment at Truro Crown Court for sexual offences committed against two vulnerable women.
Callon was employed by the Cornwall Foundation Trust and during the period June 2008 to April 2011 in his professional capacity he provided mental health support to two female clients, both resident in the Penzance area.
During his employment he took advantage of their vulnerabilities forming inappropriate sexual relationships for which he was charged and subsequently sentenced today.
In pleading guilty to all counts he was sentenced to three years imprisonment together with a lifetime sexual offences prevention order.
Following the hearing, Police Safeguarding Supervisor Detective Sergeant Andy Buckley commented, “Police and our partner agencies have collaborated in a detailed and thorough investigation surrounding these crimes and we feel that justice has been served today.
“The victims were subjected to a prolonged and traumatic period of abuse and there will be ongoing support for them to deal with the abuses of trust they have endured. Hopefully this will help bring some closure to their ordeals.
“Safeguarding vulnerable people remains a key policing priority both nationally and in Devon and Cornwall.
“Hopefully decisions such as this will give vulnerable people the confidence to come forward and report incidents of concern – especially that of professional abuse.”
