Classroom resources launched for LGBT+ History Month

The University of Exeter will mark LGBT+ History Month in the UK with a series of events and the launch of free classroom resources for secondary schools and museums that highlight the achievements of LGBT+ individuals working in maths and science.

The teaching resources were announced in November and are now free to access and download to mark LGBT+ History Month in February.

​South Devon University Technical College is bolstering its reputation as a prudent choice for students and parents seeking an innovative approach to their technical education, with its first set of post 16 results since the college was opened in 2015.

There is much to celebrate with 90% of the students taking either Engineering or Science courses gaining distinctions in their diplomas. Alongside this, students have gained good grades in Mathematics and Science A levels to support these qualifications as stepping stones to their next stage of education or employment.

Exeter’s future doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals had the chance to learn more about possible careers in the NHS during Work Observation Week at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

The hospital’s annual work experience programme, which ran from 10th – 14th July, gave 40 year 10 and 11 pupils from local schools the chance to sample some of the many healthcare careers on offer and learn more about working in a busy acute hospital. Best ever results for Exeter College International Baccalaureate students

Exeter College students are celebrating after achieving the college's best ever International Baccalaureate (IB) results.

Five college students achieved 40+ points - the equivalent of five A Levels at A/A* - putting them in the top five to ten per cent of students in the entire world.

A third of the college’s IB students scored an impressive 36+ points, meaning that they achieved the very highest results, equivalent to more than 3 As at A Level. At the same time, students celebrated a remarkable 100 per cent pass rate.

Exeter Deaf Academy wins National Deaf Schools Sports Day

Exeter Deaf Academy have won a nation-wide track and field competition for Deaf schools.

The annual National Deaf Schools Track and Field Sports Day took place on Wednesday 5 July at Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre in St Albans, Hertfordshire. Organised by local Deaf school Heathlands, the competition saw 7 schools from across the country come together to compete in a variety of track and field events.

New award made by Exeter School pupils - St John’s Hospital Educational Foundation ‘Blue Boy Award’

Exeter School pupils studying Design Technology have enjoyed investigating the possibilities of 3D printing to make cast statuettes for a new Exeter School prize. Year 9 pupils have cast silicon moulds from 3D printed masters to cast the statuettes in the form of the ‘Blue Boy’. One of the original ‘Blue Boy’ statues is situated at the spot in Princesshay on which the mediaeval St John's Hospital was located and from which Exeter School can trace its origins in 1633. Exeter School opens new indoor pool

Exeter School is celebrating the opening of its new indoor pool.

Chairman of Governors and former pupil Andrew King officially opened the pool during a ceremony on 28 June.

A generous donation from an anonymous benefactor enabled Exeter School to build the first-class, 25-metre four-lane pool for the benefit of Exeter School pupils and local schoolchildren. The Governors agreed to match fund the donation in order to integrate the pool fully with the existing sports facilities.

Maynard robotics team wins UK’s only trophy at Denmark Championships

“It was thoroughly well deserved,” said the Maynard School’s Head of Computing, Laura Burt, of the robotics team winning the UK’s only trophy at the FIRST LEGO League Open European Championship in Aarhus, Denmark over the weekend of 27-28 May 2017.
