The sale of red roses for Valentine's Day at Blundell's School has raised more than £390 for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust. In what has become a tradition, Year 12 girls in North Close House at the school organise an initiative where, for a small fee, pupils write a message on labels which the girls then tie onto the roses.

They then deliver the blooms to the lucky recipients, thus guaranteeing the anonymity of the givers. DATT is the North Close girls' charity for the year and they will be raising more funds at other events.

Last year, pupils at Blundell's raised more than £20,000 for local, national and international charities.

One of the main focuses at present is to raise enough money to buy an elephant to deliver books to people living in remote villages along the Mekong Delta in Laos, as part of the school's ongoing work with the charity, Community Learning International.
