Exeter Chiefs have today added to their playing ranks with the capture of promising fly-half Jack Walsh.

The playmaker has agreed an initial one-year deal with the current Gallagher Premiership leaders, arriving in the Westcountry from Australia where he has been playing his club rugby at Manly Marlins.

Exeter Rugby Club chairman and chief executive, Tony Rowe OBE, says he has been overwhelmed by the support already shown by the club’s season ticket holders during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

With no rugby played since the Chiefs defeated local rivals Bath at Sandy Park back in mid-March, it’s proved a testing period for everyone as they look to get to grips with the crisis that has struck all corners of the world.

Thankfully, there appears to be a glimmer of light for all clubs, including the Chiefs, with a proposed restart date of Saturday, August 15.

Phil Dollman says he’s looking to end his Exeter Chiefs career on a high note after he this week agreed terms on a new short-term deal with the Gallagher Premiership club.

The popular Welshman’s contract expired at the end of June, but after discussions with Director of Rugby, Rob Baxter, he is now extending his career with the Devon club until the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

That means the 35-year-old will be part and parcel of the Chiefs mix as they look to resume their season in both the Premiership and Heineken Champions Cup next month.

Council considers bringing the running of leisure facilities back in-house

Council Leader Phil Bialyk has announced that he wants the running of the city’s leisure facilities to be brought back under the control of the City Council.

The current leisure contract with operator Legacy Leisure runs out in September, and the Council had been in the process of procuring a new operator.

Civic leaders have sent messages of support to Exeter City Football Club as the Grecians attempt to win promotion to League Division One at Wembley tonight (Monday 29 June).

The Lord Mayor of Exeter and the Leader of the City Council will once again be taking their place in the ground – as life-size cut-outs - as Exeter take on Northampton Town in the League Two Play-off Final.

The game is being played behind closed doors at the national stadium because of COVID-19 restrictions but nearly 1,800 Grecians will be in the famous ground as life-size cut-outs.
