Match report: Exeter City 2 Leyton Orient 2

Nicky Law struck a late penalty to ensure Exeter City picked up a 2-2 draw at St James Park.

The Grecians went ahead late in the first half through Pierce Sweeney's first goal of the season, before Lee Angol quickly brought Orient level just before the break.

Louis Dennis then saw his shot deflect off Aaron Martin and up in the net just after the restart, but Law calmly converted late on to continue City's unbeaten start to the league campaign.

Grecians’ fans everywhere will be hoping that their team will make a better showing than they managed in the 2018/19 season. But all the signs are there that the new cohort of players will be on hand to strengthen the squad and offer manager Matt Taylor plenty of options when it comes to selection.

This influx of new blood is also going to be vital if the team are to reverse the downward trajectory that saw them finish ninth in League Two in May compared with fourth a year earlier.

City denied top spot and 100 per cent record with late Swindon Town goal. 

A late goal from Eion Doyle prevented Exeter City from maintaining their perfect start to the season in a 1-1 draw at home to Swindon Town.

Exeter City exited the Carabao Cup at the first round stage with a 4-1 defeat at St Andrew's against Coventry City.

An early goal from Jordy Hiwula, a header from Matt Godden, and a second from Hiwula took the game away from the Grecians in the first half as the hosts raced into a lead.

City pulled one back through Pierce Sweeney midway through the second period before substitute Amadou Bakayoko headed home late on.

A stunning strike late strike from Nicky Law kept Exeter City’s 100 per cent start to the season going as they recorded a 1-0 win away at Stevenage.

The Grecians had created the better chances throughout the match and had built up a head of steam in the closing stages when a half cleared corner found Law on the edge of the box and he hit a sweet volley, with the outside of his boot, into the bottom corner.

Great West Run announces plans to reduce plastic

Organisers of the Exeter’s Great West Run have pledged that this year’s event will not use any plastic bottles, thanks to an exciting new partnership with South West Water and Packed Meal Prep.

The half marathon, which is in its 35th year and attracts approximately 4,000 entries, will take place on 13 October, and smaller ‘Activate’ events (2.5km and 5km) which take place the day before, usually give runners plastic bottles of water both during and after the event.
