Third time lucky for Marcel's Allstars in Exeter community diversity football tournament

THERE were thrilling finals in the 15th annual Exeter City Football Club's One Game One Community Group male and female five-a-side community diversity football tournament, when eight male and eight female teams competed for trophies and medals.

In the male final, Marcel's Allstars beat The Saints 7-1, making it the third year running that the Allstars have taken the male competition title.

In the female tournament Exeter City A were the victors against Plympton A, the result 2-1.

Gary Warren says he is delighted and honoured to have signed for Exeter City having put pen to paper on a deal at St James Park.

The defender, who has more than 600 league appearances during his career, has made the switch from Yeovil Town having departed the Glovers earlier this week.

He comes with a reputation of being an aggressive, tough tackling centre-half and he says he can’t wait to get started with his new club.

Exeter Chiefs have bolstered their ranks ahead of the new season by recruiting former Harlequins forward Stan South.

The 22-year-old, who can play either at lock or in the back-row, is Rob Baxter's fourth capture of the close season, joining the likes of Stuart Hogg, Tom Price and Will Witty in making the move to Sandy Park.

Alex Fisher says he cannot wait to turn out for the Grecians at St James Park after agreeing a deal to sign for Exeter City following his departure from Yeovil Town. 

Alex, who began his early career with Oxford United before going on to play in Spain, Belgium and Italy, before having spells with Mansfield Town, Torquay United and Motherwell, is manager Matt Taylor’s fourth summer signing and is looking forward to getting started with City.

Goalkeeper Lewis Ward says he is looking to forward to getting started at Exeter City and playing as many games as he can, having signed on a permanent deal from Reading.

The 6ft 5in keeper, who had spells on loan at Northampton Town and Forest Green Rovers last season, said he was delighted to be joining somewhere permanently and he knew Exeter was the right place for him following a meeting with manager Matt Taylor last week.

Baxter reacts to Champions Cup draw

Exeter Chiefs newcomer Stuart Hogg won't have to wait long for a reunion with former club Glasgow Warriors after the two clubs were drawn alongside one another in today's Heineken Champions Cup draw in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Picked out as one of the five Tier One sides, the Chiefs have been drawn against the Warriors, French outfit La Rochelle and Gallagher Premiership rivals Sale Sharks in a highly competitive Pool 2.

Former internationals Bryan Habana and Dimitri Yachvili conducted the draw, which brings together the top 20 club sides in European Rugby.

South Devon’s highly regarded coarse fishing destination, Cofton Holidays, has crowned Bob Rand from Ivybridge as winner of its spring Cofton Cup Fishing Competition.

The multi award-winning holiday park, which was announced as Holiday Park of the Year at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards 2018/19, hosted the competition on its Mamhead Match Lake over five days of intensive fishing. The field was narrowed down from 28 in the opening rounds, to 14 in the final, with the remainder battling it out for the Plate competition.

Exeter Chiefs kit launch

Exeter Chiefs will reveal their new cup and home kit for the 2019/20 season at a special launch event in July. After the success of last year's event, Rob Baxter and members of the Exeter Chiefs squad will return to Exeter Quay on Saturday, 20th July.

As well as getting the chance to see the first glimpse of the club’s new kits, supporters will be able to get up close and personal with all the players during the fun-filled, family event in the heart of the city centre.
