Overton twins preparing for South Africa

Craig and Jamie Overton were back training at the County Ground in Taunton at the latter part of last week after spending the first three days working at Loughborough with the rest of the ECB Potential Emerging Players Programme squad.

The 18-year-old twins, whose home is at Northam near Bideford and who play their club cricket for North Devon, both signed full time contracts with Somerset after graduating from the Academy at the County Ground last summer. They have both made pretty rapid progress over the last 12 months, having played for England Under 19s and made their first...

A bit like a holiday romance, you make friends early on; you promise to meet again in the future; but in reality you end up going your separate ways.

Well, in the case of Exeter Chiefs, they sadly saw their European escapades end on a sad note, but not before giving reigning Heineken Cup champions Leinster another half decent scare.

Pete Trego back at the County Ground after New Zealand injury

Somerset all-rounder Pete Trego is back at the County Ground training hard following his early return from New Zealand with a side strain.

“I picked up a side strain out in New Zealand which was a bit of a setback so now I have got six to eight weeks back here working to get ready for the new season,” Trego explained.

“I injured myself trying to take a catch. My studs caught in the ground and I twisted awkwardly and pulled something in my side so it was a bit of a freak injury.”

“It’s now three weeks since it happened and I haven’t been able to do a great deal so I...

The Devon Derby between Exeter and Torquay at Plainmoor ended 1-1, thanks to penalties by Rene Howe and Alan Gow .

Bennett was penalised early in the match allowing Howe to convert, but Gow (pictured) drew a foul minutes from the end to offer the Grecians a lifeline.

He stepped up himself to slot in and earn City a point.

Exeter boss Paul Tisdale rang the changes ahead of the Devon Derby at Plainmoor.

With the pitch looking fairly torn up after a tough winter of flooding in Devon, the City manager withdrew Alan Gow , Matt Oakley and Jimmy...

RockSolid fever gripping the South West and beyond

With RockSolidRace’s inaugural event only two months away, obstacle racing is becoming the hot topic of conversation. The event, being held on 16th March, offers a challenge like no other seen in the South West.

We’re talking about the choice of a 5k or 10k obstacle course that includes scaling 8 ft walls, crawling through mud under barbed wire and plenty of water based obstacles - it’s certainly not a course for the faint-hearted! That, however, doesn’t seem to be putting people off as they’re signing up in their droves.

Demand for the event has already surpassed initial...

Exeter Chiefs humbled at the Stade Marcel Michelin

Exeter Chiefs saw their first-ever Heineken Cup exploits ended for the year as they ran into a French freight train in the shape of Clermont Auvergne (Clermont Auvergne 46 - Exeter Chiefs 3).

Unbeaten on home soil for 53 games before kick-off, Vern Cotter’s star-studded side produced a ruthless display of power, pace and precision as they added the scalp of the Aviva Premiership club to their list of sides humbled at the imposing Stade Marcel Michelin.

Tries from Wesley Fofana, Jean-Marcellin Buttin (2), Damian Chouly, David Skrela and Naipolioni Nalaga were the high points...

City end two-month winless run at St James Park

After seeing his side triumph by a comprehensive 3-0 scoreline against Southend United at St James Park, Exeter City boss Paul Tisdale praised his side’s attention to details in the preparation and on the field for earning the victory.

As well as earning a valuable three points – putting City into third in the npower League 2 table – it also ended a winless run dating back for over two months at the Park, and maintained Exeter’s 100 per cent record for 2013.

“It was built on a very determined group of players, as we have been for the last number of home games,” said Tisdale...
