Exeter Chiefs chairman says new American owners will bring ‘razzmatazz’ to rugby union

Exeter Chiefs chairman Tony Rowe believes that the club’s impending takeover by an American consortium could transform the Gallagher Premiership.

The billionaire owners of English Premier League club Bournemouth have agreed a deal for the club, subject to the membership’s approval at an extraordinary general meeting on May 7.

If the deal is ratified, Exeter Chiefs will become the latest Premiership team alongside Newcastle and Bath to secure major new investment.

Exeter City have signed Reading youngster Lawson D’Ath on a Youth Loan deal.

The 20-year-old central midfielder will join up with the Exeter squad and, subject to clearance from the Football League, be eligible for Bradford City’s visit to St James Park on Saturday.

Travelling Grecians will have seen Lawson play once this season already – the midfielder scored against City on his loan debut with Cheltenham Town on October, as the Robins eventually ran out 3-0 winners.

D’Ath has been given the squad number 25.

Grecians hold league leaders to a draw at St James Park

Exeter City held npower League 2 leaders Gillingham to a 0-0 draw at St James Park with a strong all-round performance.

The defence were rarely troubled throughout the fixture, with the Grecians’ best chances coming in the first period – however Jamie Cureton couldn’t quite profit in his personal duel with Gills stopper Stuart Nelson.

A hooked effort in the second period by Danny Kedwell was the closest that the Gills came to breaking the deadlock midway through the second period, but eventually the result was another entertaining goalless draw for the Grecians.

Preview: Exeter City v Gillingham Just as Exeter City’s home form has begun to pick up – seven points and three clean sheets over 270 minutes at the Park – the ‘business end’ of the season kicks in, with top-of-the-table Gillingham the visitors to St James Park this Tuesday evening.

If ever there was a time for the Grecians to demonstrate their promotion credentials then surely this match against the Gills – the one team across npower League 2 with an ounce of breathing space – is their opportunity. With no team listed as among the club’s main rivals (according to a 2003 Football...

Chiefs unveil new signing for 2013/14 season

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter believes new signing Ceri Sweeney is a "perfect fit" as he looks to bolster his squad for the 2013/14 season. The Welsh international, who has agreed a one-year deal, is Baxter's third capture ahead of next season following club-mate Tom James from the Cardiff Blues and also Gloucester's Dave Lewis. Fly-half Sweeney heads to Sandy Park after five years in the Welsh capital with the Blues, where he has scored 324 points in 109 appearances - and before that four seasons with the Newport-Gwent Dragons where he landed 570 points in 86 appearances. His...

Routine win over Totnes for undefeated Exmouth

EXMOUTH TOWN 3-0 TOTNES & DARTINGTON

Exmouth strolled to yet another comfortable victory against their visitors in the South West Peninsular Division One this afternoon. The two sides had met twice this season already - a 4-0 Exmouth league win in Totnes and a 5-1 home thrashing by Town in the cup.

Heavy pre-match rain looked to disrupt attacking intent today, but Totnes could easily have taken the lead in the opening minute of the game - just missing an open goal from a tight angle.

Exmouth too provided some early warnings, forcing numerous corners and a...

Exeter City scoreline doesn't reflect the quality of play

Exeter City and Fleetwood Town played out a thoroughly entertaining 0-0 draw at Highbury Stadium.

The scoreline didn’t reflect the amount of chances that either side created, with both teams having opportunities to take the victory.

One of the best openings for City came deep into stoppage time in the second half, as Danny Coles couldn’t get over a loose ball and saw his effort clear the bar – but the teams both merited a point from the clash in Lancashire.

There were two changes to Paul Tisdale’s starting XI after the midweek fixture against Bristol Rovers. A back...

Exeter Chiefs Colts Battle for Top Spot

Exeter Chiefs Colts V Brixham Colts

Exeter kept up their challenge for top spot in the Devon RFU Colts Shield competition hosting Brixham at Withycombe RFC. This season the boys have been rewarded with kit sponsorship from Astley Media, who have kindly provided warm up tops and playing shorts and socks.

They took to the pitch with pride in their new clothing. The ground staff at Withy had done a good job and the pitch was in great condition considering the atrocious weather we had after Christmas.

Brixham started well, trying to feed their forwards who were...
