Exeter Chiefs chairman says new American owners will bring ‘razzmatazz’ to rugby union

Exeter Chiefs chairman Tony Rowe believes that the club’s impending takeover by an American consortium could transform the Gallagher Premiership.

The billionaire owners of English Premier League club Bournemouth have agreed a deal for the club, subject to the membership’s approval at an extraordinary general meeting on May 7.

If the deal is ratified, Exeter Chiefs will become the latest Premiership team alongside Newcastle and Bath to secure major new investment.

Chiefs lose to Tigers but they were still grrrreat!

Seven days previous, Toby Flood left Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium licking his wounds as he and his fellow England colleagues saw their Six Nations dream end in tatters to a rampant Welsh side.

However, present day and the Leicester Tigers No.10 was back smiling again as his 12-point haul – courtesy of four penalties – helped the East Midlanders claim victory in a hard fought Aviva Premiership encounter at Exeter Chiefs.

Having exchanged three penalties with opposite number Gareth Steenson in the first period at Sandy Park, the 27-year-old landed a telling blow just ten...

Exeter City’s game against Rotherham United has been postponed due to the adverse weather in South Yorkshire.

As anticipated, there was heavy snowfall in Rotherham yesterday evening.

The Millers issued a rallying cry for fans to come and clear the pitch early on Saturday morning, but in spite of all the efforts, the game has had to be called off on grounds of safety.

Thanks to all the Rotherham fans for doing their utmost to get the game on. Details of the rearranged fixture will be announced in due course.

Chiefs to play Leicester Tigers

Exeter Chiefs will face Leicester Tigers tomorrow at 5pm in a sold-out match at Sandy Park.

Head coach Rob Baxter expects his side to fight "tooth and nail" in their bid to get among the front-runners in this season's Aviva Premiership. Back to back wins over London Welsh and reigning champions Harlequins have propelled the Chiefs back up the table ahead of tomorrow's visit.

Baxter wants his team to build on those two successes against English rugby's most successful club side, who will be looking to complete a league double over their Devon hosts and maintain their play-...

Devon will make history as the first stage of The Tour of Britain to host a summit finish when Britain’s premier cycle race returns to the county in September to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

The organisers of The Tour and Devon County Council have this evening announced that Devon will host Stage Six from Sidmouth to Haytor in Dartmoor National Park on Friday 20 September. It will be the first time a stage has finished with a SKODA King of the Mountains climb in the modern era of the race.

It will be the seventh consecutive year that The Tour will have visited Devon. In...

Three more commit to the Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter insists his squad for next season is taking shape nicely after another three more players committed their futures to the Devon club. Prop Alex Brown has agreed a new two-year deal with the Aviva Premiership club, whilst fellow forwards Dave Ewers and Tom Cowan-Dickie have each penned terms on new one-year deals. The news is yet another boost to Baxter, who has made no secret of his desire to hold on to the club's crop of young stock. "We like to reward guys that take opportunities and who do well for us and these three guys are all in that category,"...

Chiefs v Tigers is a sell out

Saturday's Aviva Premiership encounter between Exeter Chiefs and Leicester Tigers is now a complete sell-out. The final few tickets for the game, which will kick-off at the slightly later time of 5pm, were sold on Wednesday morning. That means a capacity crowd will be turning out to see if Rob Baxter's side can build on their recent wins over London Welsh and Harlequins, whilst at the same time looking to avenge their 30-8 defeat earlier in the season by the Tigers at Welford Road. Commenting, Exeter Rugby Club chairman and chief executive, Tony Rowe OBE, said: "Games between ourselves and...

Grecians on a high as Exeter thrash Bradford City 4-1

Exeter City completed a double for the season over Capital One Cup finalists Bradford City with a superb 4-1 victory at St James Park.

City’s first goal had a touch of fortune about it when Bantams goalkeeper Matt Duke bundled into his own net, and a debut goal from loanee Lawson D’Ath put the hosts two up at the break.

Kyel Reid cut City’s lead to a single goal late in the second half, but strikes by Scot Bennett and John O’Flynn put the sheen on a great victory and an important three points in the race for promotion.

Amongst the starting XI for the Grecians was D’...
