Exeter Chiefs chairman says new American owners will bring ‘razzmatazz’ to rugby union

Exeter Chiefs chairman Tony Rowe believes that the club’s impending takeover by an American consortium could transform the Gallagher Premiership.

The billionaire owners of English Premier League club Bournemouth have agreed a deal for the club, subject to the membership’s approval at an extraordinary general meeting on May 7.

If the deal is ratified, Exeter Chiefs will become the latest Premiership team alongside Newcastle and Bath to secure major new investment.

Early goal puts pay to City's plans for promotion

Report: Exeter City 0 Cheltenham Town 1

Exeter City slipped to a 1-0 defeat at home to the hands of Cheltenham, ending the Grecians’ promotion bid for the 2012/13 campaign.

It was an early goal that ultimately undid City, as Russell Penn’s low effort on his left foot took a wild bobble beyond the reach of Artur Krysiak and found the corner.

City pushed on, but Bradford defeated Burton leaving the Grecians four points adrift of the Bantams in seventh with just a single game remaining.

Pat Baldwin had to miss out completely from the squad, meaning Jordan Moore...

City boss looks ahead to visit of Cheltenham on Saturday

I’d like to go into the last game of the season with it being a must-win game as well, and we’re getting very close to that now." Paul Tisdale

With Bradford City losing at home to Rotherham United in midweek, Exeter City go into this weekend’s game against Cheltenham still in with a great shout of reaching the play-off spots.

And Grecians boss Paul Tisdale is grateful that the Millers have done City a favour – but knows full well that they have to concentrate on their own efforts, rather than thinking about...

Youngster named in select XI on full debut

Exeter City youngster Jamie Reid was voted into the npower League 2 Team of the Week after a successful first start for the Grecians.

Reid was something of a surprise selection in the starting XI when Exeter travelled to Kingsmeadow to face AFC Wimbledon.

However he vindicated the trust of the backroom staff by turning in a mature performance, which was capped with two great goals to twice give the Grecians the lead.

Regrettably City were held to a draw, as the Dons levelled twice through Luke Moore – who was also...

Chiefs side to face London Wasps

Rob Baxter knows the rewards of another hard year in the Aviva Premiership are within his side's grasp as his Exeter Chiefs squad prepare to travel to London Wasps in their penultimate game of the season on Sunday (2pm).

Four wins in their last five top flight fixtures have helped propel the Chiefs into the all-important top six as the battle for qualification in next season's Heineken Cup reaches boiling point.

Entering into this weekend's fixtures, the Chiefs hold a slender advantage over both Bath (2 points) and Wasps (3 points) for the final European spot - and Baxter...

Thrilling 4-3 extra time win over Plymouth Argyle

Exeter City Ladies won a hard fought but thrilling Devon FA Cup Final win at HQ in Newton Abbot this evening, emerging victorius by a score of 4-3 after extra time.

As the scoreline suggests, the game was close but City were worthy winners over their fierce Devon rivals... eventually! City started rather slowly but handled early Argyle pressure and then created chances for Shenton and a Brooks header from a corner. However, in a game that was to swing one way then the other, Middleton opened the scoring for Plymouth from a corner before City got onto the scoresheet when Leah Brooks...

Naqelevuki signs new two-year contract with the Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter has spoken of his delight after it was confirmed today that Fijian international Sireli Naqelevuki has committed his future to the Aviva Premiership club.

The 32-year-old back follows the lead of a number of his current club-mates in agreeing a new two-year contract.

Naqelevuki, who joined the Chiefs in the summer of 2010 from South African Super Rugby outfit, the Stormers, has settled well to life in England and has been a prominent figure in helping the Devon club cement their place amongst English rugby’s top clubs.

A ferocious...

Spitfires ready for start of the baseball season

Exeter's new baseball team, the Spitfires, are getting set for their first game in the South West Baseball league. Following several weeks of indoor and outdoor training with their qualified coaches, the team head to Plymouth this Sunday to take on the reigning league champions the Mariners. The team's first home game is on 12 May against Bristol Bats.

It has been a busy pre-season for the new team as they have trained a number of men and women who are completely new to the sport, have had to organise the setting up of their brand new home field at St Luke's Sports College as well...

Exeter City football coaches go for shorter distance with London Marathon

Two of Exeter City’s Football in the Community coaches, Dan Leverton and Jack Gill, are preparing to run the London Marathon on Sunday - and while most people build up to the 26.2-mile distance in training, Dan and Jack have done things rather differently.

The last time they completed a distance run was in Princesshay in February, when they ran on a treadmill for 24 hours to raise money for the Meningitis Trust, a cause close to their hearts after the death of their friend and team-mate, Paul Cridland, seven years ago at the age of 18.

“We managed to run continuously for 24...

Slade's hungry for more following his first taste of Aviva Premiership action

Having been given his first taste of Aviva Premiership action at the weekend, Exeter Chiefs youngster Henry Slade says he is keen to sample more over the remaining few weeks of the season. The talented fly-half was handed his top flight debut when he came off the bench during the second half of Exeter's 27-6 home win over London Irish. It was indeed a special moment for the 20-year-old, who with his first Premiership touch came within a whisker of marking his big day with a first-ever try. Sadly, it was not to be for Slade as referee Martin Fox adjudged his charge for the line had been...
