Exeter Chiefs chairman says new American owners will bring ‘razzmatazz’ to rugby union

Exeter Chiefs chairman Tony Rowe believes that the club’s impending takeover by an American consortium could transform the Gallagher Premiership.

The billionaire owners of English Premier League club Bournemouth have agreed a deal for the club, subject to the membership’s approval at an extraordinary general meeting on May 7.

If the deal is ratified, Exeter Chiefs will become the latest Premiership team alongside Newcastle and Bath to secure major new investment.

Baxter hails 'precious' victory

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter described his side’s latest Aviva Premiership win as “precious” as they consolidated their place in the top four with a hard fought 18-16 win at Sale Sharks. Irish fly-half Gareth Steenson did the damage in terms of points for the visitors as he punished the in-disciplined Sharks with an unblemished six from six at the target. Sale countered with three penalties of their own from Danny Cipriani, as well as a late converted try for winger Mark Cueto, but it was not enough to dent the inform Devonians. Afterwards, Baxter not only praised his team’s...

Sale Sharks 16 Exeter Chiefs 18

Dogged, disciplined and delirious – just three words you could easily use to sum up the latest Aviva Premiership victory for in-form Exeter Chiefs.

Tasked with overcoming Sale Sharks on their own turf in Salford, Rob Baxter’s side produced arguably their grittiest display of the campaign to earn a valuable four points on the road.

Unlike recent weeks where the Devon club have been happy to showcase their attacking prowess, this time they showed another side to their game as they dug deep into their defensive resolve. Fly-half Gareth...

Chiefs out to maintain top four spot

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter is demanding ‘more of the same’ when his side take on Sale Sharks tonight.

Four wins in six starts this term have put the Chiefs in fourth spot in English rugby’s top flight and they will be looking to add the name of the Sharks to their list of seasonal scalps claimed when they kick off at 8pm.

The Sharks, however, are a different proposition to that of 12 months ago and although they claimed a first-ever top flight win over the Chiefs in the corresponding fixture last season, Baxter is aware his side’s latest trip to Manchester will be...

Jess targets success at Sale

Winger Matt Jess says competition for places in and around the Exeter Chiefs squad is helping to drive standards up at the ambitious Devon club.

The Chiefs currently lie fourth in the Aviva Premiership and are top of Pool 2 in this season's Heineken Cup following a solid opening to the 2013/14 season.

However, the 29-year-old back insists everyone at Sandy Park knows the hard work must continue, starting with tomorrow night's league trip to Sale Sharks (8pm).

Last season the Sharks recorded a first-ever top flight win over Rob Baxter's side when they turned round a...

Rob Baxter is never one to get carried away with victories, nor does he tend to go into his shell following any kind of setback.

Instead, the Exeter Chiefs head coach is happy for him and his team to 'carry on regardless' and right now that means 'more of the same' from the Devon club as they look to preserve their spot in the top four of the Aviva Premiership.

Four wins in six starts this term have put the Chiefs in a healthy position in English rugby's top flight and tomorrow night they will be looking to add the name of Sale Sharks to their list of seasonal scalps...

The BetVictor Haldon Gold Cup headlines Devon’s premier raceday

The excitement of winter jump racing will reach a crescendo on Haldon Hill next Tuesday when the BetVictor Haldon Cup, Devon’s richest race, comes under starters orders at 2.50pm.

Last year’s winner Cue Card is on target to make his reappearance in the race.

The seven-year-old thrilled with his magnificent jumping at the course last year when he firmly put his rival in their place and won by 26 lengths.

He went on to score grade one successes in the Betfair Ascot Chase and the Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival and ran the brilliant Sprinter Sacre to four and...

Shoemark wants Chiefs to "push forward"

Jason Shoemark insists he and his Exeter Chiefs must continue to "push forward" as they look to preserve their place amongst the leading clubs in this season's Aviva Premiership.

The Chiefs notched up their fourth top flight win of the season when they impressively dismantled Worcester Warriors with a 40-6 victory at Sandy Park on Saturday.

In another impressive display from Rob Baxter's side, the Chiefs heaped further misery on the lowly Warriors as they ran in six tries through Ben White (2), Dean Mumm, Damian Welch, Phil Dollman and Haydn Thomas.
