Baxter upbeat despite defeat

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter refused to be too downbeat despite seeing his side slip to a 21-16 defeat at Bath in the Aviva Premiership.

Bath fly-half George Ford produced a faultless display with the boot – landing six penalties and a drop-goal – to ensure the home side of the spoils in a pulsating Westcountry derby at The Rec.

Although undone for a sixth time in the top flight by their nearest and dearest, the Chiefs played their part as tries from Damian Welch and Dean Mumm, together with two penalties from Gareth Steenson, ensured they were at least able to head...

Exeter Chiefs fail to beat Bath again

Bath 21 Exeter Chiefs 16

The long wait for Exeter Chiefs to record a top flight win over Bath will continue into the New Year at least after a kicking masterclass from fly-half George Ford settled a pulsating Westcountry derby at a packed Recreation Ground.

Bath’s young playmaker produced a faultless display of goalkicking as he not only landed six penalties, but also delivered a sumptuous second half drop-goal to ultimately sink the brave resistance of Rob Baxter’s visitors.

In a nip-and-tuck contest which saw the lead change countless times, the Chiefs – who...

Report: Exeter City 2 Bury 2

Exeter City twice came from behind to share the points with Bury at St James Park, as the game ended 2-2.

Former Exeter man Daniel Nardiello set Bury on their way, before David Wheeler pegged back with a volley ahead of the interval.

Nathan Cameron headed Bury back ahead within a minute of the restart, but sub Tom Nichols’ close-range effort drew the sides back level once more.

Both sides had chances to win it in the final minutes, but it ended in parity ahead of a two-week interval for the Grecians.

City boss Paul Tisdale named an identical...

Today's Chiefs side to face Bath

Whilst there are some who believe Bath's 'Indian Sign' over the Exeter Chiefs is now becoming entrenched in the minds of those at the Devon club, head coach Rob Baxter is quick to refute such a claim ahead of their latest meeting.

Today the Westcountry rivals square up for their Aviva Premiership encounter at the Recreation Ground (3.15pm) knowing it's not only local bragging rights at stake but, more importantly, vital top flight points on offer.

With five previous Premiership wins - and a 12-all draw - already accrued against the Chiefs in the last three seasons, Bath not...

Baxter's joy as Yeandle signs on

Jack Yeandle has spoken of his delight as he today agreed a new two-year contract with hometown club Exeter Chiefs.

Signed during the summer of 2012 from Championship side Doncaster Knights, the hooker has adapted well to life another rung up the league ladder in English rugby - establishing himself as a first-team regular in Rob Baxter's Chiefs squad.

However, Yeandle remains hugely ambitious and with his future in Devon secured until 2015 at the very least, the talented forward is keen to push his game to new levels.

"Obviously I'm delighted to have signed for...

The 26-year-old is heading down to the Mennaye Field not only to gain value game time, but also help bolster the Pirates who have incurred a spate of injuries to their pack in recent weeks.

Since joining the Chiefs in 2010 from hometown club Bristol, Phillips has amassed 44 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring six tries in the process.

However, a number of unfortunate injuries and the form of others have meant his Sandy Park career...

Ali Hepher knows his side are not a “million miles” away from challenging for top honours in this season’s Aviva Premiership, but he was left frustrated after Exeter Chiefs slipped to their second home defeat of the season against leaders Saracens.

With just minutes remaining at a packed Sandy Park, the Chiefs were denied for a second time in the contest by TV match official David Sainsbury, who claimed there was “inconclusive evidence” to award a late try for Exeter’s England international Tom Johnson.

Although watching countless replays of the flanker hurtling towards the...
