Welcome to Exeter's biggest sand pit!

The once lush Sandy Park pitch is all but a distant memory as workmen prepare to lay a new hybrid surface.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the stands is the city's biggest Meccano set.

Huge cranes have been swinging giant metal girders into place that will form new conferencing facilities and extra office space.

The work is all part of the Chiefs ambitious, long-term plans to transform Sandy Park into a state-of-the-art stadium that will eventually see the ground capacity double to 20,600 .

The main part of the works this summer will see the existing West...

Thomas Waldrom says he is ready to "put his best foot forward" as he looks to make an early impression at new club Exeter Chiefs.

The England international is just days into his new life in Devon having completed a summer move from Aviva Premiership rivals Leicester Tigers.

But already the experienced 31-year-old is getting stuck into the rigours of pre-season as he looks to make his mark here in the Westcountry.

Waldrom, who as well as the Tigers has previously featured for Super Rugby sides Crusaders and Hurricanes, knows the importance of laying a solid...

Just a handful of weeks after bringing the curtain down on the 2013/14 season - one which brought about a first piece of major silverware for the Devon club - the Chiefs regrouped on Monday for the start of their build-up to the new campaign.

Welcoming back a large nucleus of last season's LV= Cup winning squad, Baxter was also able to parade a selection of his new recruits with Ryan Caldwell, Tomas Francis, Mitch Lees and Thomas Waldrom in...

Cycle speedway taster a success

Just a few weeks ago, British Cycling coaches and top Cycle speedway riders came to Exeter to offer a ladies only cycle speedway taster session.

The event which took place alongside a Cycle Speedway Women’s League competition, was a roaring success, as the girls who took part learnt the ropes of Cycle Speedway.

The sport, which is an up and coming event in British Cycling, is not dissimilar to the popular Motorbike Speedway that many flock to go and watch.

The bicycles only have a single gear and no brakes, and the sport requires hard work and a lot of endurance....

Sturgess aims for a return to action

Exeter Chiefs prop Brett Sturgess is hopeful he will get to feature during the club's pre-season build-up as he draws ever nearer to a competitive return.

The 32-year-old forward has been sidelined since December when he sustained a serious knee ligament injury in the dying moments of his side's loss to Harlequins in Big Game 6 at Twickenham.

Since that untimely blow Sturgess has been grafting away on his rehabilitation programme, ensuring he not only recovers from the injury, but gets himself in perfect nick for what promises to be another big season for the Westcountry...
