Rising stars shine in first year of relaunched women’s football pathway partnership

Exeter College and Exeter City FC Women are celebrating a successful first year since relaunching their Academy partnership, which is helping young women and girls across the South West combine elite football with exceptional education.

Relaunched in April 2025 to strengthen the pathway for talented female footballers, the renewed collaboration has already delivered success on the pitch and supported players to progress into senior football and gain international honours.

Grecians start new campaign on Saturday

The Grecians will begin their League Two campaign this coming Saturday at 3pm as they welcome Portsmouth to St James' Park.

Paul Tisdale, who is the second longest serving manager in current English football, only behind Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger, having been at Exeter for over eight years, will lock horns with newly appointed Portsmouth manager Andy Awford, who joined the club in early May after the club decided to sack Richie Barker.

Exeter Chiefs Season Launch

The annual season launch of the Exeter Chiefs is taking place this weekend, on Saturday 9 August.

The fun filled event will run between 10am and 1pm and will be held in Bedford Square.

This is a chance for supporters to meet the players and coaching staff before the season kicks off in early September.

Due to a major redevelopment at Sandy Park this summer, the Chiefs won’t host a pre-season game, and their first home match isn’t until 13th September when they will welcome the Leicester Tigers.

Botha is relishing his chance at the Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs newcomer Chrysander Botha said the chance of testing himself both in the Aviva Premiership and European Rugby was an opportunity he simply could not turn down.

The Namibian international is just days into a two-year deal with the Chiefs, but already the 26-year-old admits he is settling in well to his new Westcountry surroundings.

Botha was head coach Rob Baxter’s eighth summer signing having just jetted in from South African Super Rugby franchise, the Lions, and will offer yet another attacking option to the Chiefs back three this term.

Exeter Chiefs are ready to unleash Namibian speedster Chrysander Botha into the Aviva Premiership after the international star today became the club’s eighth signing of the summer.

The Super Rugby star - who joins from the Lions in South Africa - touched down at Sandy Park yesterday and will join up with his new team-mates next week ahead of the new 2014/15 season.

Cycling heroes preview Devon stage of the Tour of Britain

Professional cycling stars past and present will help launch this year’s Devon Stage of the Friends Life Tour of Britain.

Chris Opie, of Rapha Condor JLT, and Dale Appleby, from NFTO Pro Cycling, will be joined by Devon based Olympian and former two-time British Road Race Champion Colin Lewis, on Friday (1 August), to check out parts of this year’s route and share their thoughts on the stage.

The Friends Life Tour of Britain will return to the county on Thursday 11 September, when the Devon Stage will start in Exmouth and finish in Exeter.

Gents 4 Man Team Open

Over 200 players took part in the gents 4 Man team open. The club got extremely lucky with the weather given that a severe weather warning had been issued. The early starters of Mark & Paul Champion, Martyn Newbery and Jon Parry (Exeter Golf and Country Club) were the victors with a fine 86 points, narrowly beating another home team of Ian Black, John Fairman, Lyndon Bent & Richard Pillow.

Grecians defeated by Swansea City

Exeter City succumbed to a 2-0 friendly defeat at St James Park against Premier League opposition in the shape of Swansea City.

City’s creative power certainly tested Swansea’s defence, but ultimately quality prevailed in the scoreline.

Goals either side of the break by Bafetimbi Gomis and Josh Sheehan were enough for the visitors to seal a pre-season win at the Park, although David Wheeler hit the bar in the first half too.

Under-18 midfielder Alex Byrne was again named in the squad, as he took a seat on the bench next to trialist Christian Ribeiro.

Chiefs name squad for Premiership Sevens

Ricky Pellow wants those Exeter Chiefs players involved in this year's Premiership Rugby Sevens to lay down a marker for all at Sandy Park this season.

In the annual season opener, which again takes place at Gloucester's Kingsholm Stadium, Pellow and fellow coach Keith Fleming send a youthful looking squad into action against the Cherry & Whites, Bath Rugby and London Irish.

England Under-20s youngsters Joel Conlon and Stu Townsend - both fresh from helping their country to regain the IRB Junior World Championship this summer - head up Exeter's 12-man squad.

Exeter City v Swansea City preview

Barely will the Grecians have touched down in the UK before they have to move on to the next – a visit of Swansea City at St James Park tomorrow (Tuesday 29 July, ko 7.15).

The tour of Brazil provided plenty of useful experience to Paul Tisdale’s young Exeter side, and now the team need to put that into practice back on home soil.

The Swans were visitors a year ago in pre-season, and have returned to the South West again as part of their preparation for another Premier League campaign. The faced Plymouth Argyle on Sunday and then move on to meet AFC Bournemouth on Friday...

Bicton Arena is awarded international status

Bicton Arena has announced it has been awarded international status for its August 2015 horse trials.

The venue will run CIC and CIC2 classes. Both are regarded as a necessary stepping stones for riders wishing to compete at international level in the UK and Europe.

Arena manager Helen West said: “We canvassed competitors and the support we have received in our quest to gain a CIC for the area has been overwhelming. We then took our case to British Eventing, the sport’s governing body, who agreed with us that there is a lack of opportunity in the South West.
