City's delight after historic Brazil match

The Grecians and the Guerreiros played out an entertaining but goalless draw at the Estádio das Laranjeiras.

The historic match, to celebrate the formation of the Brazilian national team on the eve of its centenary, kicked off at Laranjeiras in beautiful Brazilian sunshine – but to the chorus of ‘We Are Exeter’.

Over 150 travelling Grecians had made the longest away trip to watch City take on the Fluminense XI, featuring players in the first team squad of the top-tier side with promising youngsters.

Once the official protocol was over, Fluminense started the game...

Exeter Chiefs forward Don Armand is expecting a big improvement from his side when the 2014-15 Premiership season begins.

Chiefs finished eighth in the Premiership last season despite losing four of their last six games.

That including a record 55-12 thumping at home to Sale Sharks, although it was tempered somewhat with the lifting of the club’s first major trophy – the LV= Cup.

Off the pitch, Sandy Park is undergoing redevelopment work to boost the capacity to more than 12,000 for the 2015 World Cup, and Armand says it all adds up to a “very exciting” year for the...

Hooker Elvis Taione hopes a big year with new club Exeter Chiefs in the Aviva Premiership can help secure him a spot in the Tongan squad for next year's Rugby World Cup.

The 31-year-old is one of seven new signings brought to Sandy Park by head coach Rob Baxter this summer and already the experienced forward is setting his sights high ahead of the 2014/15 campaign.

Not only is Taione keen on playing a key role within Baxter's first-team make-up, but he hopes his on-field actions will be enough to put him in contention for the South Sea Islanders.

Ironically, Tonga...

Royals win by the odd goal at St James Park

A young Exeter City side were defeated 1-0 in their first pre-season fixture, when Reading were visitors at St James Park.

The result was never the priority though, with fitness and performance the more pressing concerns – and City certainly impressed on those fronts.

Ryan Edwards’ early goal for the Royals was the difference in the scoreline, and somehow goalkeeper Mikkel Andersen kept the City attack at bay after the break despite being put under plenty of pressure from a potent front-line.

Both managers named separate XIs for each half – for City, only Christy...

Paul Tisdale confirms new City captain

Following the announcement, Tisdale said that the versatile 23-year-old is ready for his new responsibilities.

Scot has regularly worn the armband for the Grecians throughout youth levels and in reserve fixtures, and got his first chance to skipper the first-team in the absence of Danny Coles and Pat Baldwin at Accrington last season.

The Newquay-born man...

Phil Dollman believes lessons learnt last season will help to serve the Exeter Chiefs well ahead of the new 2014/15 season.

In a season which brought the high of the Chiefs lifting their first piece of major silverware when they defeated Northampton Saints in the LV= Cup Final, together with the low of a record-breaking home defeat to Sale Sharks, the Welshman believes the Devon club will head into the new campaign with some vital experience under their belts.

"We won a major piece of silverware, which is something you have got to take on board and enjoy, and be proud of,...
