Mitch Lees may only have been with the Exeter Chiefs for a week or so, but already the Aussie powerhouse can see the step up in standard.

Having helped former club London Welsh to regain their place in the Aviva Premiership with victory over Bristol in the RFU Championship Play-Offs, Lees moved to Sandy Park during the close season as one of seven new signings Rob Baxter has made to his squad.

The Exeter Golf and Country Club 14 and under girls' team have secured the Devon Aegon Team Tennis Division Two title after victories against Ipplepen and David Lloyd, Exeter.

On Saturday 14th June, the girls travelled to Ipplepen tennis club with most of the players taking part in their first competitive matches. The latest competition for the gents at Exeter Golf and Country Club was the Club Championships. Over 140 players competed in the Nett trophy, which was won by Roy James with a fine nett 63. Low scoring was the order of the day with 10 players beating the par of 69.

Betfair is to sponsor this year’s Jockeys v Eventers v Showjumpers Celebrity Challenge in aid of the Injured Jockeys’ Fund at Bicton Arena.

The competition takes place on Saturday, August 23 during the venue’s summer showjumping show.

Hundreds of people are expected to attend and with a disco following the evening competition, organisers are hoping to add plenty of money to the Injured Jockeys’ Fund coffers.

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter welcomed back the majority of his playing squad for the first day of pre-season.
