EXETER City FC are hoping a secret ingredient will boost their season – beetroot!

The club has struck a deal with city-based drinks manufacturer Cobell to supply players with the first 100 per cent natural sports performance drink called PWR+.

And one of the key components of the brand new beverage is beetroot juice.

PWR+ has already been trialled by the Exeter Chiefs rugby team and now the Grecians are the first football club in the UK to take advantage of its unique benefits.

The drink was inspired by research at Exeter University into the natural benefits of beetroot juice an ingredient which, although highly effective in improving performance, doesn’t taste great on its own.

However, as experts in sourcing, processing and blending fruit, Cobell managed to create a delicious drink which combines beetroot with sour cherry juice, coconut water and blueberries.

So PWR+ not only tastes great but works to enhance the body’s natural systems; improving training endurance, in-game performance and post-activity recovery.

Nick Sprague, CEO and Founder of Cobell, the producers of PWR+,  said: “We spent a great deal of time and effort making sure we created the right formulation of PWR+. We now believe we have the right product and we know it works.

“The most important thing for us is that we’ve managed to achieve something that no one else has been able to do. We’ve produced a performance drink with no nasties; a drink that actually gives you a natural edge

“We’ve been working with the Chiefs for a while now so it gives us a great sense of pride to be able to work with Exeter’s other jewel in the crown ECFC.”

Exeter City Chief Executive, Julian Tagg, said: “In competitive sport you look at every opportunity possible to gain an advantage.

“We believe that our relationship with the PWR+ brand will help ensure the players perform to the best of their ability and would like to thank Nick and his team for their support.”
