Luxury student accommodation launches in Exeter

The first phase of a £7m development of Exeter's landmark former city hospital was officially launched during a series of exclusive preview events of Dean Clarke Lofts, Exeter’s newest and most exclusive accommodation for students and professionals-in-training.

Lunch Club visits award-winning venue for tasty treats

Around 20 members of the Gilbert Stephens Lunch Club enjoyed a two-course luncheon at award-winning pub, the Rusty Bike located on Howell street.

The bi-monthly event, organised by the Devon-based law firm, is held at various venues in and around Exeter and gives professionals from the city the chance to meet in an informal setting.

London fitness & leisurewear brand launched at Dukes

Designer fashion store Dukes, based in Exeter's Harlequin Centre, hosted an event last night to celebrate the arrival of a new range of lifestyle fitness, swimwear and loungewear by London-based brand Vevie.

Vevie was launched last year by Caroline Greenslade, who has designed lingerie, swimwear and loungewear for brands such as Heidi Klein, Agent Provocateur, Pistol Panties and Hoola, as well as being Head of Design for Debenhams.

CIHT annual conference and black-tie dinner

The Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) held its annual conference at the Rougemont Thistle Hotel in Exeter. The CPD event, which was co-ordinated by Glen King PR, sponsored by WSP and supported by Parsons Brinckerhoff, attracted 75 delegates from the industry.

In the evening, 150 construction industry guests from across the South West region attended the black-tie dinner and enjoyed a three-course meal. Professional raconteur David Gunson gave a humorous after-dinner talk and £1,135 was raised for the CIHT dedicated charities.

Ladies pamper night at Sapphire Living Space

VIP guests enjoyed a ladies pamper night at Sapphire Living Space near Darts Farm in Topsham.

The luxury kitchen and bathroom showroom joined forces with Saks Hair and Beauty and Purity Day Spa, both in Exeter, to host a drinks and canapés evening with live demonstrations. The food and drinks were catered for by Bon Gout of Exeter.

Co-owner Mark Newbery said: "This will be the first of many events we will be staging at Sapphire. It was a great success."

Launch of Historic Dartmoor town's new destination website

The Chagford and District Business Association launched their new destination website www.visitchagford.com at a lunchtime reception hosted by world-renowned Gidleigh Park and supported by culinary superstar Michael Caines and Chagford-based Helpful Holidays. Both Michael Caines and Neil Tappenden from Visit Chagford spoke at the event.

The new destination website was supported by West Devon Borough Council and offers visitors to Chagford a wide range of information about what to do and where to stay in this beautiful Dartmoor Stannary Town.

Awards ceremony says thanks to Devon's recyclers

Devon’s super recyclers were recognised in a special ceremony (held on Thursday 31st January) to thank them for their hard work in helping to protect Devon’s environment.

This was the first year of the Recycle Devon Thank You awards, which mark the 10-year anniversary of the Don’t Let Devon go to waste campaign.

Devon enjoys a recycling rate of 55% (2011/12) making it one of the highest recycling counties in the country.

Neil Parish met Scouts from 1st Honiton last week at a unique event inside the Houses of Parliament to celebrate the success of Scout Community Week, which took place in May last year. Neil and 1st Honiton were joined by other Scouts from across the UK who took part in Scout Community week to thank them for their contribution. From 3rd – 9th June 2013 hundreds of Scout Groups will once again participate in a week of community action aimed at improving their local area, raising funds and highlighting Scouting’s need for more adult volunteers.

The Exeter Business Games 2013, organised by Big Wave Media, were officially launched on January 31st, at an informal event held at The Forum, the University of Exeter. Representatives from 30 Exeter businesses were joined by chef Michael Caines, trustee of the Exeter Business Games’ nominated charity the Exeter Foundation, and Robin Williams and Dan James from the GB Paralympic Football team. RUBY Modern Diner, which officially opened its doors to the public today, is the new kid on the block in terms of Exeter's burgeoning restaurant scene. Owners Erin Allgrove and Dicky Harrison have breathed fresh life into 74 Queen Street, transforming this prominent Grade II Listed building into an American-style diner with a modern twist.
