Alanis Morissette joined by Pale Waves and The Big Moon for Devon date

Guitar indie-pop band Pale Waves and Mercury-nominated The Big Moon are the latest acts heading to the south Devon countryside for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

The bands are joining the line-up for seven-time GRAMMY Award winning Canadian / American artist Alanis Morissette ’s headline show with special guest musical powerhouse Skunk Anansie at TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham on Friday June 26.

Son helps plant memorial tree at care home where his mother lived

A local man, whose Mother lived at Lucerne House Care Home in Exeter at the end of her life, has helped plant a memorial tree outside the care home as a permanent way for care home staff, residents, relatives and friends of the home to remember those who lived there. Chris Wallington sprinkled the first layer of soil onto the roots of the memorial tree at a planting ceremony held on 20th April, attended by residents, relatives and care home staff. Bridge Road in Exeter closed next weekend

The next weekend closure of Bridge Road is planned to take place from 10pm on Friday 5 May until 5am on Monday 8 May for the continuing installation of cantilever beams and spans for the Countess Wear pedestrian and cycle bridge.

The diversion route will be signed via Topsham Road, Alphington Road, Marsh Barton and the A379. Details of the diversion route are available here .

Free Lightfoot devices for drivers in Exeter

Exeter City Futures is facilitating a collaboration between City Science and Lightfoot to offer free Lightfoot devices to drivers in Exeter. One of the biggest problems with modern day motoring is that good drivers are paying for all the bad drivers out there on the road. Not to mention the air quality issues that bad drivers create.

Exeter teacher supports vulnerable children at London Marathon

A 50-year-old teacher from Exeter, who was inspired to run the London Marathon to help vulnerable children and young people proudly crossed the finish line on Sunday to raise hundreds of pounds for The Children’s Society.

Tracey Lloyd completed the gruelling 26.2 mile course in an impressive four hours and 22 minutes on Sunday 23 April to support the charity’s work with the most vulnerable children across the country who experience issues such as child sexual exploitation, poverty and neglect.

Exeter Labour leads the call to improve funding for Devon schools

The full council meeting of Exeter City Council on 25th April passed a motion opposing central government education funding cuts and calling for revision of the proposed funding formula which otherwise would together result in an average cut of £420 per annum for Exeter students.

People can gain a fascinating insight into the Exeter Blitz and how locals took refuge from the falling bombs in Exeter’s Underground Passages at a series of events next week. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Exeter Blitz of 1942. Overnight lane closures on Bridge Road in Exeter

An overnight lane closure and temporary traffic signals will be in place on Bridge Road in Exeter tonight (Wednesday 26 April) and tomorrow evening (Thursday 27 April).

On both evenings, the signals will be in use from 8.30pm and up to 5.30am the following morning. The lane closure is needed to enable safe working during the installation of sockets for new traffic signals north of the Bascule Bridge, which will eventually replace the existing pedestrian crossing at the canal.
