Exeter ranked move-friendly city

Exeter has been named one of the UK’s least stressful cities to move to, thanks to strong infrastructure, good housing availability, and ease of access to short-term services.

In a new national study released by Pay Less for Storage, Exeter scored 74 out of 100 in the “move-friendliness” index, ranking joint 10th alongside Inverness, Lancaster and Ripon. The research measured practical relocation challenges like van hire access, local self-storage options, chain-free housing stock, and the availability of short-term rentals.

Mortgage and private rental repossessions on the increase

Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, is expressing its concern as mortgage cases listed at Exeter County Court rose by 19% and private rented sector cases rose by 9% in the last year. This is comparing the year ending 31st March 2017 to the same period ending in 2016.

Across all housing sectors, there was an overall decrease of 0.5% in the total number of cases listed. Missing Killerton mansion may have been found

Archaeologists working with the National Trust’s Killerton estate believe they may have found the location of the lost Killerton mansion that was started in 1775, but never completed. The lost house was re-discovered almost by accident. Alzheimer’s Society has announced (Tuesday 20 June) that it has committed almost £2million to the University of Exeter, as part of its biggest-ever single investment in dementia care research.

Thousands more homes and businesses across northern, central and west Devon will be able to connect to superfast broadband following a major contract announcement by Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS). Fire at Devon residential home

Fire crews tackled a blaze at a Devon residential home last night.

The alarm was raised at the property in Court Street, Moretonhampstead at 9.37pm.

On arrival crews discovered smoke pouring from the building.

Firefighters used three hose reels, three thermal imaging cameras, ladders and six wore breathing apparatus set to extinguish the fire. At the height of the incident five crews were in attendance.

The fire involved one first floor bedroom which was 100% damaged and part of the adjacent landing which was 20% damaged.
