Exeter ranked move-friendly city

Exeter has been named one of the UK’s least stressful cities to move to, thanks to strong infrastructure, good housing availability, and ease of access to short-term services.

In a new national study released by Pay Less for Storage, Exeter scored 74 out of 100 in the “move-friendliness” index, ranking joint 10th alongside Inverness, Lancaster and Ripon. The research measured practical relocation challenges like van hire access, local self-storage options, chain-free housing stock, and the availability of short-term rentals.

Exmouth fly tipper fined for dumping domestic waste

An Exmouth woman has been fined more than £1,400 for fly tipping in a successful prosecution brought by Environmental Health Officers from East Devon District Council.

Jill O'Donnell who was living at Waverley Road, Exmouth when the offence took place pleaded guilty and was fined £1,451. She was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £145. Exeter Magistrates reduced her fine by 10% after taking her circumstances to pay into account.

The magistrates were told that Ms O'Donnell dumped more than 20 bags of domestic waste and some old carpets in the service...

Entire Seaton Down Hoard on public display for first time

On Saturday 1 July, the 22,888 coins of the Seaton Down Hoard will be on public display for the first time.

The coins were buried in the ground on Seaton Down around AD 350 and discovered in November 2013 by metal detectorist Laurence Egerton. They will be on permanent display in the Making History gallery at Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery (RAMM).

Conservation work began on the coins in July 2016. Talks, Roman Roadshows, museum events, special workshops, gallery tours and other events have been enjoyed by over 15,000 people from Devon and further...

New boundaries confirmed for district council wards in East Devon

Final recommendations have been made for the electoral arrangements of East Devon District Council, following a review carried out by the independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England.

“There is no place in Exeter for hate crime.” That’s the message from Exeter’s Community Safety Partnership.

The message of zero tolerance comes as Exeter has experienced four incidents of religiously motivated hate-crime within 10 days.

Willow the donkey meets residents at Exeter care home

Staff at RMBI Home Cadogan Court in Exeter, have teamed up with The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth, to bring some interesting animals to meet with residents. The donkey handling team brought Willow, the miniature donkey, with them to the care home on Barley Lane on Friday 23 May. Willow has a calm nature and has been trained to go down corridors. He visited residents in different parts of the Home with his handlers, and enjoyed eating ginger biscuits and carrots. Local girl Abbie Baker has earned herself a place in the finals of Miss Sensational UK after winning her title Miss Devon Sensational UK, where she will stand alongside girls from all over Great Britain. FORCE funds new equipment to celebrate 30th anniversary

Women across Devon are set to benefit as FORCE Cancer Charity celebrates its 30th anniversary this year with a major equipment purchase.

To mark this milestone, the Exeter-based charity is funding a new advance in the treatment of women with cancer at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

The RD&E is encouraging some of its inpatients to keep active in hospital and swap their PJs for everyday clothes as part of a new campaign to promote their independence.

Bridge Road in Exeter closed this weekend

Road users are being reminded that Bridge Road in Exeter will be closed from 10pm tomorrow (Friday 23 June) until 5am on Monday 26 June.

The closure will enable improvement work to continue including the reconstruction of pavements, resurfacing and the installation of new lighting columns and safety barriers. Work will also be carried out on the Countess Wear Flood Relief structure.
