Devon is on alert again for the possibility of another bout of snow this weekend.

With the Met Office having issued a yellow warning for snow and ice in the county for Sunday (18 March), Devon County Council’s 37 frontline gritters are treating around 2,000 miles of the county’s main routes and road users are being reminded to be aware of the wintry conditions. YMCA Exeter raises record amount for young homeless

Local people helped to raise over £30,000 for YMCA Exeter at a local fundraising on Saturday 10th March that saw them sleep out for the night in Barnfield Crescent.

More than 40 people took part in the annual Sleep Easy event, helping to raise money but also awareness of the work of the local youth charity. Participants paid an entry fee of £10 and were sleeping on DIY cardboard beds.

It was all part of a national YMCA Sleep Easy Week that saw YMCAs across the country come together over seven days to promote their work with young people.

The charity that runs Paignton Zoo is marking the special day of a special species.

The Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust, the charity that runs Paignton Zoo, Living Coasts and Newquay Zoo, is celebrating International Macaque Day on Friday 16th March. Sulawesi crested black macaques (Macaca nigra) can be seen at both Paignton Zoo and Newquay Zoo. The charity supports a successful project in Indonesia called Selamatkan Yaki, which works with the species in the wild. Ashill Inn support Headway Devon

A local pub has raised a fantastic £510 for local people with brain injuries following their Christmas draw.

The Ashill Inn in Cullompton decided to support Headway Devon following the experiences of two of their regular customers, Anne and Dave Brummitt. The couple have been supported by the charity after Dave sustained a brain injury in 2016. Anne commented “We are very grateful to the Ashill Inn for raising this money, and to Headway Devon who are a real lifeline for us.”

Innovative new research has suggested that physical activity around the time people are diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes could have long-term health benefits, improve blood glucose levels, reduce hypos and reduce the risk of complications, such as retinopathy and neuropathy.
