Libraries bring creativity to life

Devon and Torbay libraries are set to burst with colour, sound, and imagination this autumn as Libraries Unlimited unveils its exciting new programme, running from 1st August to 31st October, under the vibrant theme ‘Get Creating’.

Far from the quiet spaces of the past, libraries will host everything from craft workshops and discos to live theatre and concerts. Visitors can learn to make musical instruments, explore bugs, build fantasy houses, or create watercolours, mosaics and screen-prints—all within their local library.

Giant ‘Babies’ Cry, ‘Not Your Mum? Not Your Milk’

Yesterday, ahead of World Milk Day (1 June) and because of Devon’s long history of dairy farming, two giant PETA “babies” holding signs proclaiming, “Cows’ Milk Is for Baby Cows” and “Not Your Mum? Not Your Milk!” descended on Exeter’s high street.

They highlighted how unnatural it is to drink the milk of any animal past weaning age – let alone that of another species, like a cow who was forcibly impregnated and whose baby was taken from her – and encouraged the people of Exeter to go vegan. PETA supporters also handed out free samples of Alpro’s strawberry soya milk.

D-Day role highlighted in 80th anniversary exhibition

Exeter Airport’s vital role in supporting the allied D-Day invasion of Europe 80 years ago is being highlighted in a two-day public exhibition at the airport.

The D-Day 80th anniversary event is being hosted by Chris Wiseman and Jerry Bird on 5 and 6 June, from 11am to 7pm on both days in the airport terminal. Car parking is available for just £2 per day in Car Park 4, and the airport’s Cove Café will open on both days.

Airing on Friday 31 May, Killerton will be one of the central stories in Hidden Treasures of the National Trust .

Scheduled for 9pm on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer, the programme will reveal new and compelling stories about the work going on behind the scenes of the National Trust to conserve incredible objects and properties and the passionate staff and volunteers who care for them. Overnight closures planned on A361 and A380 in June

Overnight maintenance work will be carried out on the A361 and A380 next month (June).

A number of overnight closures will be needed to undertake the work which includes re-tensioning of safety barriers, line marking, grass cutting, gully emptying and bridge inspections. All of the closures will be from 8pm to 6am.

The A361 will be closed overnight in both directions between Bolham roundabout and Gornhay from 8pm on the evening of Sunday 16 June until 6am the following morning (Monday 17 June).
