Devon County Council has launched a public consultation on its draft Exeter Transport Strategy.

The strategy is being updated to reflect current travel trends and the needs of communities. It will aim to provide a sustainable transport system which supports continued growth in the city but also enhances the environment for residents, pedestrians and cyclists.

Work to start on repairing Exeter river bank

Work to strengthen a section of river bank in Exeter which was subjected to erosion before Christmas, is to be carried out over the next few weeks.

Exeter City Council has confirmed that work on the banks of the River Exe at Duck’s Marsh Meadow will start on Wednesday (23 January) and take around three weeks to complete.

In late December, a small section of land close to St James Weir collapsed, taking with it a newly installed park bench. The bench is to be replaced by the Council, further back from its original location.

If running is a New Year’s resolution this year, bring your family and friends and join us for the National Trust’s Night Run on Saturday 26 January at East Soar Farm, near Salcombe.

The ancient farmland and woodlands are shrouded in mystery so experiencing them at night will add a whole new dimension to your running experience.

New heritage trail for Dawlish

Dawlish residents and visitors can now explore the history of the area with a new heritage trail around the town.

The Dawlish Heritage Trail has been developed by Teignbridge, with funding from the Coastal Communities Fund and Devon County Council. Designed for adults and children, the trail has 14 information points. Freemasons in Exmouth have handed a £300 boost to a flourishing charity based in the town that supports suicide bereaved families across Devon.

Members of the Per Mare Per Terram Masonic Lodge No 9355, Tom Devin and John Langford, were welcomed to the Exeter Road HQ of Pete’s Dragons.

Exeter’s Christmas Trees raise over £5,000 for Hospiscare

Hospiscare vans and volunteers were out in force last weekend collecting over 500 Christmas Trees across the city.

Exeter residents were able to have their tree collected in exchange for a donation and the initiative raised over £5,000 for the local charity that cares for people who have been given a terminal diagnosis.

Louise Beeken, Head of Fundraising said: “It costs £21,000 a day to run Hospiscare services, caring for people at the end of their life in their homes or at the hospice. We raise this through the generous donations and gifts in wills of the local community....
