Twenty one Devon residents have been honoured in HM The Queen’s Birthday Honours List this year.

The honours list recognises the extraordinary achievements of a wide range of people across the UK, for their efforts to improve the social mobility of those from underprivileged backgrounds. That could be through providing care, education or innovative business and employment support.

More than a thousand people received an award this year, including 920 candidates selected at BEM, MBE and OBE level.

World's biggest Plogathon set for Exeter

Planet Earth Games and Plastic Free Exeter have agreed a partnership to deliver a ‘Plogathon’ – which organisers believe could be the biggest plogging event in the world. Plogging refers to the activity of picking up litter whilst jogging - a Swedish derived term, from "plocka" (to pick up) and "jogga" (to jog). From its beginnings in Sweden in 2016, plogging now represents an increasingly global movement, evidenced by the representation of over 40 countries in the official online “Plogga” group.

Voting is under way as coastal community projects in Exmouth vie for a share of a Tesco funding pot of almost £300,000.

Tesco is inviting local shoppers to cast their votes for Marine Conservation Society, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution or Surfers Against Sewage to receive funding of up to £4,000 through a special round of its Bags of Help scheme.

Bags of Help, run in partnership with Groundwork, sees funding awarded to thousands of local community projects every year.

Station Road play area set for £110k makeover

Work has started on the £110k refurbishment of a play area in Exeter.

The facility at Pinhoe Station Road is being rebuilt by Exeter City Council after locals were asked what sort of play equipment they would like to see introduced.

Work is hoped to be completed by the summer holidays but is weather dependent.

Princesshay is bringing Wimbledon to Exeter with live outdoor screenings of matches on the giant screen. The screen will be in Princesshay Square for the duration of the legendary two-week tournament (Monday 1st July – Sunday 14th July 2019).

Princesshay is also providing deckchairs, bean bags and a temporary lawn for visiting tennis fans watching the matches free of charge.

A brand new recycling badge is being launched today for all Devon Scouts.

The new badge has been launched by Recycle Devon and aims to encourage Beavers, Cubs and Scouts across Devon to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

The scouts will work through a variety of challenges and activities to earn the colourful badge.

Redrow National Apprentice of the Year Courtney Baker-Edwards joined forces with Nick Knowles and the DIY SOS team to volunteer her painting and decorating support in their latest Big Build in Torquay.
