Exeter Racecourse has launched a brand-new Community Raceday and is inviting people across Devon to nominate a community hero who deserves recognition.

Community Raceday takes place on Friday, February 20, during half term, and coincides with Devon Day at the racecourse. The initiative celebrates the people who make a real difference in their communities – from volunteers and carers to sports coaches, fundraisers and quiet grafters who go above and beyond.

WALKERS and hikers from Devon wishing to have boots made from non-animal components and materials can now walk-away with the latest vegan outdoor footwear thanks to Taunton Leisure – Exeter (2019).

The family-run, independent retailer on Fore Street in Exeter is stocking the new Dalesway Vegan Walking Boot, which has no animal derived parts, including adhesives, to help meet customer demand.

The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Yolonda Henson, officially cut the ribbon on the entrance to the new Panny Woodland Walk, surrounded by schoolchildren and parents from Wynstream School on the Burntside Lane Estate at Wonford, Exeter.

RD&E relaunches Park and Ride service with new ‘Sowton ShuttlePatients and visitors to the RD&E can avoid congestion and hand over the driving to someone else thanks to a new low-cost shuttle bus running from Sowton Park and Ride in Exeter.

The Sowton Shuttle is now running to the RD&E’s Wonford site Monday to Friday from the Park and Ride hub on Sidmouth Road, with an adult return costing just £2. Buses run every 30 minutes from 6.40am and run into the evening, and take only minutes to reach the hospital’s main entrance.

Grieving families support others ‘at their most vulnerable'

A decision made by bereaved families has enabled £8,000 to be donated to a Devonshire hospice.

The donation was made to Hospiscare by the East Devon Crematorium, near Exeter, thanks to the generosity of families who have lost a loved one.

The donation was raised through a national verified scheme that recycles metals which remain after cremation with the express consent of bereaved families, such as items used in the construction of the coffin or orthopaedic implants.

FORCE Cancer Charity is offering the opportunity to play bowls at its Exeter support centre from next month.

As part of the charity’s Get Active programme for cancer patients, FORCE has joined a national initiative to get more people involved in the sport.
