Remains of Roman defences discovered under Exeter’s Bus Station site

Archaeologists working on the redevelopment of Exeter’s bus station have uncovered the remains of a Roman fort.

The find has been described by an archaeology expert as “very important and completely unexpected.”

The discovery was made by the Exeter Office of Cotswold Archaeology who are working with Kier Construction to record remains of the city’s Roman history ahead of the construction of a new bus station and leisure complex.

Body cameras to protect ambulance staff

South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) has agreed to trial body worn video cameras to better protect our ambulance crews against violence and aggression.

Crews in Exeter, Plymouth and Bristol will wear the cameras during the three-month trial starting on Tuesday 1 October.

The use of cameras is intended to deter abuse and obtain evidence of offences against our ambulance crews.

If the trial is successful, the cameras could be rolled out across the Trust.

East Devon District Council’s Licensing Sub-committee has approved an application to licence an electrically propelled, zero emission car as a new private hire vehicle. The application was made by Mr Szilard Bakos to operate his new private hire business, Eco-wheel, offering pre-booked transport for the public, using his Nissan Leaf saloon car.

HELP Appeal donate to the upgrade of Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital's helipad

Royal Devon and Exeter hospital’s helipad set to open January 2020

Work to replace the old helipad at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital is well underway, thanks to the cost being totally funded with a £1million grant from the HELP Appeal– the only charity in the country dedicated to funding hospital helipads. It is anticipated that the new helipad is set to open by January 2020.

Experts from the University of Exeter and the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery (RAMM) are celebrating the start of a major new partnership.

Staff from both institutions will collaborate on research and organise exhibitions and events to showcase RAMM’s world-class collections.
