Exeter Community Alcohol Partnership (CAP) has won a national Reaching 18–25s Award in recognition of its pioneering work supporting young adults and improving safety across the city’s evening and night-time economy. The Lord Sainsbury backed Engineers in Business Competition, which inspires engineering students and graduates to develop life changing business innovations through university enterprise competitions culminated in the first Champion of Champions Grand Final at the Royal Academy of Engineering.

South West holidaymakers looking to fly from Exeter Airport have even more choice for sunshine destinations in Summer 2020.

The return of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands with TUI, and now twice weekly flights to the Greek Islands of Corfu and Zante, and Antalya on Turkey’s Turquoise Coast, are among more than 35 international and domestic routes available from Exeter Airport.

And Ryanair has confirmed that flights to Malta, Malaga and Alicante will operate year-round, bringing even more choice for holidaymakers across the South West whatever the time of year.

Exeter scientist up for award alongside Greta Thunberg

An Exeter scientist has been nominated for a climate communication award – alongside environmental activist Greta Thunberg.

Professor Richard Betts, of the University of Exeter and the Met Office Hadley Centre, is on Climate Outreach’s shortlist for the Climate Communicator of the Year Award.

The three-strong list also contains activists Kathy Jetñil-Kijiner, from the Marshall Islands, and Aka Niviâna, from Greenland, who are jointly nominated for the way they have connected the experiences of two communities experiencing climate change.

It’s official, heritage brings happiness, says Historic England.

Volunteers will be trained to help review, manage, protect and enhance the heritage assets in their conservation area, such as buildings, monuments and landscapes. Time is running out to take part in consultation about proposals to increase council tax payment support for low income working age households

Around 3,000 low income households in East Devon could benefit by an estimated £270,000 in extra support towards paying their council tax in a scheme which is currently being consulted on.

But time is running out to take part in the consultation on the district council’s draft Council Tax Reduction Scheme which proposes to increase the amount of council tax support for low income working age households. Pensioners will not be affected by the proposals.

East Devon District Council has completed access improvement works in a site off Green Lane, for the Feniton Flood Alleviation Scheme, to ensure that both Phase 3 and Phase 4 have appropriate access for contractors to complete culvert installation works.

C Sansom Ltd, the contractor who carried out the preparation work for council, arrived on site on Tuesday 8 October to fell apple trees, which were situated within the proposed working area for Phase 3 and Phase 4.
