New trustee brings decades of experience in social care leadership to Westbank Community Health and Care

The Devon-wide health and wellbeing charity, Westbank Community Health and Care, is delighted to welcome Ian Hobbs, a former social worker and social care professional, to its Board of Trustees.

After 42 years working in a range of roles within Devon County Council, Ian is bringing his considerable skills and leadership experience to the third sector. As a Trustee, he is looking forward to helping the team at Westbank to deliver its ambitious programme of interrelated services and to make the changes that will be needed to adapt to the future.

East Devon District Council’s new property services partners, Ian Williams Ltd, who maintain its 4,200 council homes, has opened a new office at Woodbury.

The building will be the central hub for the contractors to carry out all aspects of maintaining and improving the council’s properties, which includes providing a day-to-day repairs service for tenants and proactively fixing issues before they become a more expensive problem. The ten year contract, which began in July, also includes bringing empty properties up to standard before being re-let.

Stagecoach launches special fireworks fare promotion

Stagecoach South West is offering a special £2 return fare to customers attending the Exeter Round Table Fireworks Display at Westpoint on Sunday 3 November.

The 37th annual Exeter Round Table Fireworks Display at Westpoint is Devon’s biggest pyro-musical event, attracting around 5,000 people from across the region. The spectacular display is run by volunteers and all profits will be donated to local charities.

This year’s event will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing and there is also a large fair with many thrilling rides, a range of food and drink...

Exeter builders merchant giving away wood

The Exeter branch of RGB Building Supplies is offering excess wood to the local community and groups at no cost.

The branch has spare pallets and wood from packaging that people are invited to pick up and make use of for projects, or to help with local bonfire night celebrations.

Turf cutting marks Postbridge Visitor Centre construction start

An new chapter in Dartmoor’s history began today with a ceremonial turf cutting to mark the start of building work at Postbridge Visitor Centre. Devon Carbon Plan process launches

A top team of environmental experts, charged with ensuring that Devon reduces carbon emissions as quickly as possible, is calling on residents to submit their ideas on how to do it.

The Net-Zero Task Force has been appointed by the Devon Climate Emergency Response Group - made up of Devon’s councils, emergency services and business groups - to deliver the Devon Carbon Plan.

The Carbon Plan will lay out in stark terms what every resident, organisation and business has to do to reduce emissions and safeguard the planet for the next generation.

Freemasons donate £10,000 to Exeter Cathedral

Ian Kingsbury, the Provincial Grand Master of the Devonshire Freemasons recently met the Very Revd Jonathan Greener, Dean of Exeter Cathedral to present him with a certificate to commemorate the £10,000 granted to the Cathedral to help with the renovation and modernisation of the facilities so essential to the wellbeing of the house of worship, in particular on this occasion the Chapter House.

A fine example of a traditional butcher’s bike will go under the hammer on November 2.

The vintage 1930s bike was once used by a family-run butcher’s shop in Topsham to deliver orders to local people, before its practicality was made redundant with the advent of van deliveries in the 1950s.
