Last call for patients eligible for Covid-19 spring vaccine

NHS Devon has issued a ‘last call’ for at-risk patients eligible for the spring 2025 Covid-19 vaccine.

The spring booster campaign ends on June 17, and patients who meet the criteria are being urged to book before it’s too late.

Covid-19 is more serious in older people and those with certain underlying health conditions. For these reasons, the vaccine is being offered to people:

  • Aged 75 years and over
  • In care homes
  • Aged six months and over with a weakened immune system.

Police hunt man who 'touched himself inappropriately' in front of women on Devon train

British Transport Police are investigating two acts of indecency where a man touched himself inappropriately on Devon trains are looking to identify him in connection.

The first incident happened on 26 July at approximately 8.30pm, the second happened the following month on 7 August at 5.25pm. During both incidents, a man sat near a woman and began to touch himself inappropriately while staring at the victim. The man would then leave the train at Torre station. As the nation eagerly awaits the start of the Great British Bake Off 2019 this week, residents at RMBI Home Cadogan Court in Exeter have enjoyed a culinary competition of their own.

With the support of the Home’s three chefs, the residents, all in their 80s and 90s, tried their hands at making traditional Cornish pasties.

The charity zoo has its very own branded blend – Zoorabica. It’s the first time the charity has offered its own named coffee. The new beverage is supplied by Coffeeworks, based in Exeter, an independent company with over 20 years’ experience.

People at risk of homelessness can now contact the council to start accessing key housing services at any time of the day or night – every day of the year.

Advice, information and access to the council’s housing team can now be obtained from the council’s website.

A platform that has encouraged hundreds of University of Exeter staff members to reuse unwanted items in order to help the environment is celebrating its first anniversary.

The Waste Action Reuse Portal (WARPit) is an online reuse platform that makes it easy for staff to get, give and loan surplus assets across the university.

Two close-knit ‘lovedogs’ are looking for a forever home, after warming the hearts of a local community on their journey back to full health at a pet rescue centre in Doncaster.

An incredibly brave 11-year-old girl has raised an impressive £10,000 for the RD&E Spinal Unit, just two years after undergoing major spinal surgery.

At just six-years-old Rhiannon Hewitt, from Camelford, Cornwall, was doing handstands with her sister when her grandmother noticed that Rhiannon’s back looked out of shape. An x-ray found that Rhiannon was suffering with a 60 degree curve of the spine, known as Scoliosis. From then on, to try and reduce the risk of the curve increasing, Rhiannon wore a brace for three years, 23 hours a day.

Paramedics at South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) are reminding people to use the service wisely this August bank holiday as the ambulance service is expected to be very busy.

The Trust is expecting more than 10,690 incidents over the bank holiday four-day weekend, and with the sunny weather predicted the ambulance service will be kept busy with visitors to the region.
