New trustee brings decades of experience in social care leadership to Westbank Community Health and Care

The Devon-wide health and wellbeing charity, Westbank Community Health and Care, is delighted to welcome Ian Hobbs, a former social worker and social care professional, to its Board of Trustees.

After 42 years working in a range of roles within Devon County Council, Ian is bringing his considerable skills and leadership experience to the third sector. As a Trustee, he is looking forward to helping the team at Westbank to deliver its ambitious programme of interrelated services and to make the changes that will be needed to adapt to the future.

Christmas shoppers looking for unique and unusual gifts will find inspiration at the Escot House Artisan Fair on Saturday, November 23.

This is just the second year for the event, which debuted last year and was declared a resounding success by shoppers and traders alike.

Data scientists, artificial intelligence experts and clinicians are among a range of professionals invited to join a new national network to find innovative ways of conducting dementia research and care.

The ARUK Deep Dementia Phenotyping (DEMON) Network is led by the University of Exeter and is supported by Alzheimer’s Research UK, the Alan Turing Institute and Dementias Platform UK. It aims t o unite experts from a wide range of fields to find new solutions to research in dementia.

18 black and white TVs still in use in Exeter on 50th anniversary of BBC One in colour

As BBC One celebrates its 50th anniversary of colour TV this week (Friday 15 November), TV Licensing has revealed 18 households in Exeter are still watching TV programmes only on black and white TV sets.

In Devon, Exeter has the second highest number of black and white licences, behind Plymouth at 21, and ahead of Torquay with 7. All other towns in Devon have less than 5.

A Question of Racing proved a winning format at Exeter Racecourse on Tuesday with a packed audience entertained by some of horse racing’s leading personalities.
