Popular Exeter park set to get community hub

Park users in Heavitree will soon be able to grab a coffee and a cake while on the go, thanks to a grant from Exeter City Council.

Community charity Park Life Heavitree is building a café and community facility in Heavitree Pleasure Ground.

The café will offer affordable, locally-sourced food and drink and the building will include toilets and a community space that will be able to be hired by local groups.

Speeding offences rife in greater Devon region

Earlier this month, 57-year-old music instructor Oliver William Felix Gibbons pleaded guilty to exceeding the speed limit on the A361 at South Molton last year in May while driving a Peugeot 206. Gibbons explained to the court that he made a terrible mistake in thinking that an open road gave him permission to drive like Steve McQueen. Beware of icy conditions on Devon's roads

Icy conditions could be a problem on Devon’s roads tomorrow (Wednesday 29 January) as another cold night is in store this evening.

The main gritting routes in the county are already being treated by Devon County Council’s gritters this afternoon and they will continue their efforts overnight.

A Facebook post about recycling tealights has had an unexpected reaction, with requests from people across the UK wanting to know more.

The Recycled Candle Company posted an image of founder Richard Hills-Ingyon holding a bag of tealights to illustrate that the business can recycle them.

Forecast of wintry showers could make travelling conditions challenging

Wintry showers could make conditions on Devon’s roads hazardous overnight and into tomorrow morning, Devon County Council is warning.

While most of the county is likely to see rain and hail showers over the next 24 hours, up to 3.5cm of snow is forecast for higher ground such as Dartmoor, with less expected on Exmoor and the Blackdown Hills.
